Infestation of ants!

Help! The little buggers crawled in through the kitchen slide last night and took over the dish of dry cat food, as well as kitchen counters and cabinets. I sprayed Raid and cleaned up everything, but I'm afraid they'll come back.

Does anyone have experience in preventing ants from entering your rig?

I thought I saw something about putting a ring of comet around your wheels and stabilizers as the critters will not survive crossing this chemical.

Thanks, Doug. I think that's the post I was trying to find and couldn't. Also - CRS - couldn't remember what the solution was! Now I've found the thread (search "comet") and the info is really helpful.

Also your reply was only 7 minutes after my question - I LOVE THIS FORUM!!

Try Borax, it also kills ants. Also a product call "Torro" works very well. They eat it and take it home and it kills the young.

If they are the large Red ants I feed them honey mixed with yeast, they eat the yeast and then in a little while they explode.

Sharon,
I carry both ant spray and ant powder.
When set up I use a good ant spray around any thing on the rig that touches the ground. Tires, jacks, and stabilizers. Even the electrical, freshwater and sewer lines. I even clip any tree limbs or shrubs that may touch the rig. If it can be used as an entry/egress it gets sprayed. After I'm done spraying those items I take a close look at the ground surrounding the rig and if there's an ant hole it also gets a good dose of ant powder. Have no problems with ants and I do believe Florida is the ant capital of the world.

We use to go to one campground that was known for ants. The Comet (doesn't have to be that brand) really works. When someone left you could see the outline of the unit of the Comet on the pad so everyone was using it. I've even used generic brands and they all work.
Happy trails...................

SHARON - hate those little buggers. So far, knock on wood, we have not had any issues with ants. However, this fall we have been plagued with darling little lady bugs. Anyways, when in Texas we take "ant" precaution by using the comet treatment. We haven't had ants in Monty, so assuming it does work.

I know you are careful, but please remember your beautiful kittens when using products such as Raid.

LINDA - are you pulling my leg, or does the yeast thing really work -- seems like it would be a sticky, messy remedy!~!

Thanks, everyone! It seems the problem is solved. I found some Borax in my cupboard and sprinkled it around everything touching the ground. No more ants.

Vickster, I was very careful with the Raid around my kitties and their food and water. Thanks for the warning and your concern. (BTW, I finally made it to Tombstone, AZ for a few days! Going to Phoenix tomorrow.)

Gypsy: If you are coming to Goodyear (Phoenix) - we are there for few months - Cotton Lane RV and Golf Resort (golf course under construction) - new, big sites, strictly enforced rules but very reasonable - close to Freeway #10...

Mike & Evy - I'll be about 15 miles from you at Pueblo El Mirage, but only for a few days to visit a friend. Maybe we can get together during the weekend? Send me a private email with your contact info.

I get my Hudson sprayer and mix up a portion of malathyon, and spray the underside of my trailer, and I mean everything brakes and tires to. no ants in my rig at home or about.

Good to hear that you were able to chase the ants away.
