Sue, if you have a 2004.5 there is a TSB for improving the mileage.
Check with your dealer.

Sue, the 11.3 is towing, right? That's a decent number. What axle ratio? If it's 4.xx then that's probably a very good number (maybe Dodge owners know better but it sounds good to me). You have a good truck, Sue. Maybe that TSB will do some good for you, too.

TSB=Technical Service Bulleting. Tells the dealer how to fix the subject problem. 11.3 in normal driving with that truck is horrid, Sue. Time for a trip to the dealer. That engine should do much better than that regardless the axle ratio. Unless you are truly a leadfoot with jackrabbit starts from every stop.

Steve, can I just say I look so forward to your posts now!

No jackrabbit here, in fact my daughter says I drive like an old lady....hmmmmm, maybe she's right, I am pretty old.

I will check out the manual today to make sure I am pushing the correct buttons and reading the gages correctly. If still 11.3 I know where I'm going Monday.

Thanks for all your help

Sue; You can see by my profile what I'm running. When we're towing we get an overall average of around 13.5 to 14 MPG at 65MPH. I run in OD as much as possible. From what I've read, one should only lose a mile a gallon going from a 3.55 to a 4.10. Also a dually will have more rolling resistance than a SRW that will cost a little. Not towing mine will get 20+ on the highway. Also I gained about a mile by putting in a power chip and 4" exhaust. The new Cummins has 4" from the factory.

Just for the record, I wish I could get 14 mpg towing. The best I do is just over 11, but that's actual not estimated. A headwind (or tailwind) can make a lot of difference, but I don't think I've ever gotton over 12. I drive between 65 and 70, but let it slow down uphill and speed up downhill. I tow in overdrive and do NOT use the tow/haul except in the mountains. I have not determined what my mileage is without the RV. I should probably just stay out of this and not reveal my less than ideal statistics, but just for the record.. . .

I used to tow 65 to 70 and have to admit I still do occasionally, in those rare occasions we're really in a hurry. But then I realized I'm retired and that over 200 miles the difference between 60mph and 65mph is 15.4 minutes. And at least a mile per gallon, maybe more. So now we most often tow at 60 and let the cruise maintain the speed up and down the hills.

OK, I checked. Somewhat better than I remembered, but not much. The 20 mpg leg is without towing (in Colorado mountains) Not sure I can attach an image ....

Hmmm, Padredw, how did you manage to get negative ten miles on your truck at the beginning? A little rolling back of the odometer?

Opps! Should have cut that out of my print out. It's been too long for me to remember, but I think I took that out of my log because I wanted the trip to start at 0, and that was the easiest way to do it. I know it makes no sense to anyone else, but... OH, there it is. Note that the first leg INCLUDES that 10 miles. .. Creative bookkeeping, I know.

After catching up on the posts sounds like we need a trip back to the dealer. If memory serves me right towing we average about 11 mpg - 17 without. Seems we should be getting better or at least one would think .

Safe travels.

we've towed with it 3 times now but have not determined mileage.....have been to inthralled with having a new TV and a new 5ver.....have put it all away for the winter but will start to gauge actual mileage in the spring.
Really do love the stability of duallies and the way it handles the load.....effortlessly.
