Does she do the broken wing act if you get close to the nest?
We live in the country and they frequently build nests in our back yard. Fun to watch them. And the tiny chicks are a real hoot to watch. Look like a fuzzy ping pong ball on match sticks. When I see one doing the broken wing dance, I find the nest and mark it so I don't mow over it.

Do I see a Killdeer carving in the future? It is great to watch mother nature. We had a "Wag Tail" build a nest on the window awning frame in Australia. They nested twice a year so we saw her twice before the nest failed.

Bill, Patricia, yep she will do the broken wing act when someone gets to close, but she and her mate seems to not mind nancy and me.
John, you can "read" me well!! Ha, yep I have already drawn a pattern, and will start sawing out the blank soon. Just gotta figure out how I want to do her. Killdeer and sandpipers are close relation except the black ring markings.
thanks for looking

Tom41 great pictures of the killdeer's...
We made it to Crossville yesterday afternoon.. We are at Spring Lake campground.. It is a very nice campground. We are on the backside of the lake.. Nice and clean.. Will stay here again when we are in the area for sure...

I do the same thing. I keep a bundle of wire stem flags on my mower for marking the nests.

Hi Larry, glad you liked the campground. If you going to be there this weekend, (supposed to be pretty) there is a large nice flea market really close by.
take care
