08 Ford Owners....Air Dam

A improved airdam(the black part that is under the front bumper) was added to the job 2 build F-250 and F-350 4X4 trucks. The purpose was to improve airflow under the higher trucks, reduce drag and improve MPG. It is easily noticeable as the improved version is much longer than the older version. Note that it is ONLY on the 4X4 versions of the truck. On some of the other truck forums I have seen some claims of 2,3 or better MPG..none of which I believe. However in theory it should work and a improvement of 1 mpg would be significant. In our case a difference of $100 round trip to our winter home in Florida'
We decided to take the chance and order one..the part # is
8C3Z 17626 B (Valence panel). Cost delivered to my dealer was 102.34 including Ohio Tax. There is some question on if the holes in the present bumper will line up. Parts says the bumper part numbers are the same..before and after. If it does not line up they will install it..

If it works..good for me...If not I have spent money foolishly before.

Don't forget to take the weight of your new airdam off the cargo capacity!!

Installing the part, even though it comes from Ford, but is not part of the vehicle when purchased......Will it affect your warranty????...I have seen mods done to the air intake on my model and I was told that the warranty could get voided if the dealer was cranky...

The air dam is NOT a add on.It is a authorized Ford part and if it had to be replaced and your truck was a 08 4X4 the part number that would come up would be the new air dam. There is a different part number for the 08 4x2 trucks.

Wife reading over my shoulder also thought it was part of the air intake - explained to her what it was and just showed her on my dodge what it is. Keeps us posted Rich -- would also be interesting to know if it alters the engine cooling any since it will be pushing some of that air another way.....

Good point. I do not see where it would effect engine cooling as it is just longer than the original and appears to be compensating for the higher 4X4 configuration. However I will make a note of that and monitor Coolant temp for any increase.

Let us know what happens.
I'm thinking (not to fast) about adding the bigger dam to my 'o6.
I've read the same, that it will improve mileage a bit by reducing air drag on the underbody.
I expect it should help cooling since it will force more air over the top and to the sides. That should create a deeper low pressure area beneath the truck, forcing more air through the radiator/coolers.
I'll find out.

hey rich,
i installed on my 450 and so ar can i say it worked, not sure, it does make it look better. i changed it out before i ever towed with it, so i cannot say for sure it does help mileage. install is really easy, i ended up going to one of the big home improvement stores and buying some nuts and bolts, then i used the clips that held the old one on,took about 1.5 hours to install. you may be able to tell a difference if you have towed lots and please keep us posted on your results.

We did some benchmark testing over the last few days with the OEM air dam. Ran a section of 4 lane interstate that we know well, pretty much flat and straight, The average solo was the same each time.60MPH, Cruse control, A/C off 17.0MPG.
We will make the same runs with the new air dam and see what the results are.. The new air dam has not come in yet. I am extremely dubious...

Made the same run today with the new air dam...the result was 1.1MPG better.. That was what we logged..Could it be???????
