Steve-
If the GM's are the early model Duramax's there is a design problem with the injectors. I think the model that they changed the injector type was
'03. A friend of mine has a '02 and GM had extended his warranty on the injectors to 200K miles. He had an injector failure about 85K and they replaced all injectors with the newer type.

Took my truck into the dealer yesterday! They checked the computer codes, again, and something finally showed up...EGR valve. Havn't had a chance to hook onto the RV yet but will do so next week to see if they have actually found the problem. I gave them a list of things that I had gathered from all of your suggestions...Thanks for your help! Hopefully the problem is solved!

Did you have a chance to test out your truck, I am taking mine to the dealer this week for the same problem.

I read FORD has a recall program for certain 2004 6.0 diesels because of the high rate of warranty issues. Seems they are ready to make some computer changes to improve dirvability and eliminate the "missing" and stalling issues. If you have spent even a dime on other fixes - Id' ask for some kind of reimbursement. One good thing - FORD is stepping up on at least this issue.
Good luck with fixing your problems..

My 04 Ford PSD died on the way home from a 3 day stay at a Ford dealer. The cause was the EGR valve. They also found a problem with the solonoid that moves the variable vanes in the turbo.
I had two 7.3 diesels and had good luck with both of them. My 04 left me stranded by the side of the road 3 times, burned 30% more fuel than the 7.3s and left me very frustrated with Ford.
The dealer let me order a 2005 V10 for 3200 dollars difference and so far it is the best 3200 dollars I have ever spent on any vehicle. In 07 Ford will have a new offering in the diesel segment, a 6.4 dual turbo engine with fixed vanes. I love Ford pickups and I hope this new diesel is a winner for Ford as warranty problems with the 6.0 have cost Ford a lot of money
and a lot of customers.
