Landing gear broke

I have a 2010 Montana 5th wheel in perfect shape. I have a motor for each side for my landing gear. I was dry camping when one leg dropped. It was like I sheered a pin in the leg or something. When I got home, I was using the other leg to lift it off my truck and then that one did the same thing. Both motors turn and I pulled of the top plate for the legs and the gears are turning but the legs won’t go up or down. Can anyone tell me how to fix this? Thanks in advance

Someone will probably comment with more knowledge later, but here is what I think. I believe there is a cotter pin or such that attaches the top gear to the drive shaft inside the leg. Somehow it broke or the gear slipped off somehow. Good luck.

p.s. I had a 2006 model and had to replace a leg. Venture mfg made my landing gear legs and were very nice and good to work with. If they made yours, you might contact them.

You likely have legs from Venture Manufacturing. Take a look at this Thread as Post #3 has PDFs about the legs that should help you. If you are lucky, the problem is the shear pin under the horizontal bevel gear. Do a Search on "landing gear" or variations as this once was a popular topic.

Carl is most likely correct with a sheared or backed out pin. The legs also may be Atwood. That pin actually isn't a shear pin on an Atwood but a hardened and slightly tapered pin. On a past 5er, one came out (a common occurrence with the Atwood brand) and disappeared It was replaced with a hardware store hardened rolled steel pin that lasted from 2010 until the trailer disappeared down the road with a new owner in late 2014.

Also one of the gears occasionally will strip, but that's not common.

Let us know how you make out
