I was born in 1962, but many of these scenes are a definite part of my childhood. I was watching some of the early James Bond films, starring Sean Connery, the other day, and those were indeed different times--some good and others, well, not so good...

The Sixties!
Let me see. Oh, yeah, Vietnam! Labor strife. Civil Rights issues. Assassination of President Kennedy. Just to mention a few.

Now don't get me wrong. I take a trip down memory lane every now and then. It is fun to remember all the great fun things. But like all periods of time there was the good and the bad. Regardless of what it was.... it was what we had and we dealt with it. Just like our ancestors did and our progeny will in the future.

Enjoy it while you can.

The 60s? Well for me I thought the 60s were nothing but problems. Seems like everyting went downhill from that time. For me the 50's were great. It at least seemed to have some innocense. But then some folks thought rock n roll was evil. With every generation there was something, but the 60s had too man things going on that really changed the face of America, at least in my opnion - and that is not worth much.

I enjoyed looking back, thanks.

We had a neighbor that moved last year. He was in a band that played at Woodstock. The band was "Country Joe & the Fish". The neighbor was "The Fish". He is a specialist in criminal law and currently serves as a Public Defender in our county.

If anyone remembers his group and is interested in going back to the sixties abit more, here is his homepage:

I think the '60's stand out because they started out one way and ended up another. I graduated in 1964 and was married in 1967, so I tend to remember them fondly, but toward the end of the decade things were changing.

That was awsome. Had to call my wife to watch. Played it a second time. Getting out of high school in "61" and out of the service in "66" put me in the middle of all of that. So many of the things I have not thought about for years. Great presentation.

Thanks for the post, it was great. I could not afford a Corvette then - and I can't afford it now!

I remember how we used to "hang" on the corner, bored and with nothing to do and lament how at some point, these would be the good old days!

I too remember the sixties, and most of the fifties before them, I was born in 1942. I started enjoying the 50's about 1952. The Chevy fastback, Pattie Page, Tennesse Ernie, The Platters, what great memories. I also remember 3 years between 1963 and 1965, Vietnam, Kennedy, people hating us for the things that we did in the name of democracy, and the beautiful feeling I had when I was able to finally put it all behind me, thanks to my wife. The 60's and the protests, trying to keep a young family going and some of the most beautiful and poignant music ever written. I also remember the flower children, and building VW's out of junk and painting flowers and American Flags on them and finally I remember My Country finally saying thank you, not just to me but to my 37 friends and the many thousand of us who didn't come home. For this I thank you and My Country. They are and will continue to be wonderful memories, both the good and the sad.[ What a wonderful post and as Louie would say "What a Wonderfful World"

The 60's can also be remembered as the decade when the world as we know it, nearly came to a end.It was called the Cuban Missile crisis and on the evening of October 27 1962 we were minutes away from nuclear war. We had gone to defcon 2 for the first time in history. I along with others were standing around the Military liaison officers desk at Cleveland Air Route Control Center staring at a red phone that had rang twice before raising the defcon level and if it rang one more time we were toast and we knew it would ring .We had sealed the building, activated the wash down system and the closed air system. I had called my wife and told her not to worry and I would see her later, when I said that i was lying. We knew that about 20 mins after that phone rang Cleveland and Most of Northern , Ohio would cease to exsist. We were that close. The phone did not ring another one did ..My shift was over at midnight It was a beautiful night..that was 44 years ago..some things you just never forget. Rickety's post brougt it back.. Anybody else in the Military or the Government at that time remember those days in October 1962..

Yes, we too remember that period in history very well. I was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. My unit spent the weekend in an Airforce hanger at Pope Airbase, connected to Ft. Bragg. We were less than 30 minutes away from jumping into Cuba, and would have been one of the first units sent. We were able to make a minute call out to our families without revealing anything, which we weren't informed of anyhow until later. My fiance, and my wife of 44 yrs. now, was attending college at home in Montana. Very few people realized just how close we really were to hearing those phones ring and how lucky they didn't! Support our troops!

djdecock..just a couple of years before you we were in the 50th Signal(key to command) battalion in support of the 82 airbone in Ft Bragg ,NC . Remember the area well as well as Pope AFB and the C-119's. Did a lot of Low drops out of those guys.

I preferred the mid 50's to mid 60's as the best time of my younger life. I had no worries at all and had a ball. By the time 67 come around I was flying over a 100 Combat Support missions in SEA. All the really great times seem to come to close about that time although life has always been good.

At the start of the 60's I remember we tried to purchase a new split level dream home in Columbus. But we just couldn't qualify for the high price of the house,(12,500).

We purchased a new home in Northern , Ohio in 1961. 1 floor ranch, under the old GI bill, 12,800.00( with garage) , no down payment, monthly payment 74.50 per month...Those were the days..
