Water Filters

What is the recommended filter to attach to the water hook up. Want to make sure we don't restrict our water power coming into the RV.

It depends on what you want to filter out. Sediment, arsenic, chlorine, etc. We don't drink water from rv campsites so we use a sediment filter. All filters will reduce water flow to some degree.

We just use the basic blue Camco inline filter after our regulator. We generally use bottled water to drink, and have never had any issues.

I guess we go to a little more extreme than some: We start with a whole house sediment filter, then the portable water softener, then a whole house carbon filter, then into the RV's water system. We also have a taste filter in the fridge before the ice maker and water dispenser through the door.
I might add that we're "Most Timers" spending between 9 & 10 months in the RV.

As full timers water is critical for us. We don’t have room or capacity to carry bottled water. We have a three stage whole coach water filtration system Consisting of 1/2 micron sediment, carbon and metal trap. We use the Camco 5 micron directly off the hose bib to capture the large sediment. Drinking water is purified via Acuva UV system.

We full time and use the Camco blue filters also. Change them out several times a year.

Fireguy, do you have more than 5 lb water pressure after all those filters? I don't have much with just a Camco filter!!!

I have tried a few different layouts of filters, and the current one seems to work well: the Camco blue filter first (bib side), then the pressure regulator, then under-sink filters in the galley and washroom basin. The final stage for drinking is a gravity fed "Berkey-like" unit made in Canada. We figure if we contract anything from our water in the rig, it must have been something in the supply than got through a 0.5 micron ceramic filter medium, which is about as small as one can reasonably filter. Using UV rays would be the last resort.

You might want to consider moving your filter to after the regulator. Those Camco filters are only rated about 60 psi, and that’s why we place ours after the reg. We have been in a number of parks that have pressures above 100 psi and warn you upon checking in that you must use a regulator.

I have a quality adjustable pressure regulator On the inlet of my 3 stage. I also have a gauge on the outlet. This way I can know when my filters are due to be changed. My 1st stage sediment canister is see through so easy to see when it needs attention. I usually don’t run over 60lbs on the outlet. I had a pressure issue last year that I traced down to poor quality quick connects. I replaced them with a higher grade and never a pressure issue again. If a parka water pressure is absolutely terrible I would just fill my fresh water tank and use it. My pump can put out descent pressure. Haven’t had to do that yet.

I haven't found many parks that even have 60 lb of pressure!! Some as low as 40.
I admit I have never tried to remove the screen filter in the kitchen hose under the sink (and that is where most of my problem comes from). I may have to get energetic and look into the sink issue, I guess.

The fixtures were where we started. You would be amazed at the level of sediment and scale that can build up in those aerators. Once we addressed those restrictions a water softener took care of the long term care and prevention.

PNW Fireguy, I too am having issue with quick connects... can you give recommendation for better quality ones. Who makes a see through sediment canister?

You might want to try The Water Filter store. Very nice guy and customer service oriented. Not the least expensive place but he will take very good care of you. If Rick bottom pricing is what you are after Then Google is your friend.

We use the Camco blue filter, but use bottled drinking water for consumption.

We use the blue Camco filter on the inlet after the pressure reducer, but I have a 5-stage RO unit under the kitchen sink that I use for drinking and cooking water ( also the dog's drinking water). The system takes up most of the space under the sink cabinets though.

We are Kinda crazy here to. I contracted H-pylori from a house well in the desert 15 years ago So I learned a lot about water safety.
We use the green Clear 02 water filter off the park spigot. Then we have our water softener. Then we have a dual Filter with a 0.5 filter followed by a charcoal filter. All before it enters the trailer.

Might I suggest placing your softener after your filtration. This will greatly reduce any “funkiness” with the beads.

I installed a water filter system in our Montana about two years ago. I used the equipment listed below. Filters have 3/4" inlet and outlets. Used 3/4" Pex pipe and have little to no pressure loss. System is very effective. Even works on water in the Yuma AZ area, some of the worst water quality I have run across. NOT the cheapest, but it work. We do not buy bottled water anymore.
