2500HD tires.

From time to time, I have talked about changing our stock 245/75 tires to 265/75 tires to gain about 750 lbs of extra weight carrying capacity. The rear tires on the 2500HD seem to be the limiting factor on its rear axle capacity.

Well, I finally did it. We now have four new Michelin LTX M/S tires each rated at 3415 lbs. I took the truck into the dealer's today for the computer change to adapt the computers and speedometer to compensate for the slightly larger tire diameter. It didn't take long and only cost CDN$21.60, (about US$17).

At the same time I had and oil and filter change (with 15 point inspection) for CDN$46.86, (about US$32). I thought these were pretty competitve prices considering they were performed by the Chev. dealership.

(P.S. I know changing the tire size does not change the manufacturer's axle rating, I was just looking for some extra margin on safety on the tires, because we were usually loaded very close to the axle/tire limit.)

My 2500HD comes in on Nov. 10 or 11. I am changing the tires to the same size right off the bat. Should get a little better mileage when not towing. Like you said, the tires won't change the axle rating, but the tires will hold up better.

Looked at your sig. lines, that's quite a package to be getting. Before Christmas too! Enjoy!

John, those are the exact same tires we had on the truck we had at the rally. I was very happy with those tires although I'd only put 18k miles on them by rally time. Good ride, good wear pattern. Mine were 16-inch as I assume yours are. LT265/75R16E. Strangely that was a 1-ton truck and this new 3/4-ton truck came with 265's although they're 17-inch. B.F. Goodrich, not Michelin.
