New disc brakes install problems

We just picked up our new 381TH and we had Dexter brakes and Dexter hydraulic pump installed by the dealer. When we picked it up we had trouble getting the brakes to work properly with our 2019 2500hd with factory brake controller installed. After lots of talking and head scratching they got them to work but I'm not satisfied its working properly. My question is what is everyone else using for a controller? Looks like I need a ProdigyP3 but can't find out if its a plug and play or if I need to disconnect the factory one? Anyone with ideas or input would be welcome.

We had disk breaks and the Roadmaster slipper springs installed during the last national rally. In our 2017 F-350 I selected electric over hydraulic in the brake set-up. No problems with brakes working. Disk breaks are great.

Mine doesn't have the disc brakes but we have a 2015 F350 with a 2017 381TH with the built in controller.

I’m thinking they did not install a Ford/Chevy Controller Adapter when they wired in the actuator. If this isn’t installed, your factory controller will not see the actuator correctly. I had our disc brakes installed this past June, and the adapter was installed and the Chevy built in controller works great. The device isn’t much, just splices into the wiring.

It’s my understanding that the newer Chevy’s don’t have an option of hydraulic or electric and do not need the adapter. Also, the controller must sense movement before it will activate the brakes. If you hook up and use the slide switch nothing will happen until you move a little bit.

Do not replace your factory brake controller with a Prodigy or similar controller. The onboard controller is far superior being integrated with the entire braking system.

The newer GMs '17 up do not need the adapter, the built-in controller detects if it's Electric Drum or Hydraulic Disks automaticly
When I upgraded from my '11 Silverado to current '18 Silverado I removed the CAM module as it was no longer needed.

The CAM Module is the Adapter to fake out older GMs into thinking they are talking to standard Electric Drum Brakes and is wired just before the Brakes Hydraulic Pump/Actuator.

They also don't work below 20mph I think it is..
Unless you use the hand brake on the controller.
