Made control panel door a slider on 3790-no more headache

Ok guys and gals, this is a mod I've been thinking about and researching for quite a while. This is the way the 3790/3791s should have come from the factory. How many of you have been in the door of the control panel, walked outside and came back in to nearly knock yourself out on the control panel door that you or someone else had left open???? I do it all the time, so I just remedied that problem. It took a long search but I finally found the correct drawer slides at Home Depot dot com that are long enough.
I went shopping and bought a 1 3/4" x 36" square dowel at HD for around $8(I bought a 1.5" but the slides would not clear the corner trim at the hutch) KEEP IN MIND please that they aren't stained yet. I decided to cut the full piece at the top (13 1/8") and then at the bottom I cut the two pieces 5" in length so as not to interfere with the surge protector monitor I put in. I counter sunk all of the screws into the square block. Then carefully measured the placement of the drawer slides and centering of the door(as you have to remove the hinges and latch). Lots of measuring and lots of help from my dad holding things up, got it into the correct position. Here's the final product. Instead of the door opening into the hallway, it now slides. Snap to be put into place to stop it from opening when the slides get broken in.

Thank you. Took forever to find the drawer slides that would work. As far as the 5" tall blocks, that's in case people don't realize it's a slider door and pulls the screws out. I can just go up a bit higher to reattach..

Very cool! I am sure many of us have hit our heads on that door. I know I have, and it's usually my own fault for leaving it open!

Now you need a sign on the door!!!

Slide door to the left or simply "DO NOT OPEN".

That’s a great mod! I’ll have to look and see if it will work for ours. On our floor plan the control panel is on the left right as you walk up the entry steps. Not only are you running into it but your stepping up at same time! It is a good place for it as you need to be able to see out door when operating things like the awnings or to turn on lights for entry. Although we leave the led ambiance lights on when away since they don’t get hot

Nice job. Great work in thinking the problem through and coming up with a working solution.

Great idea. Modification #15 coming up. The first 14 were cabinet shelfs, moving vac in basement and struts for storage doors.

That is a great idea. My 3455sa has no door at all and I prefer it that way. I can see what's going on without moving anything. IMHO its just dumb to have to open a door to turn on a light etc.

Great idea. I also moved light switches to the wall above countertop.

Well, after my mod on this door, I still found myself pulling on the darn thing to open it, so I decided to give myself a little reminder. It's just vinyl lettering that will easily peel off, but I needed a reminder until I get used to it

Looks great! I posted a Sherwyn Williams stain match, I don't know how it'll go on pine but it's a dead match on cherry.
