Flashing Lights at any Montana

I was wondering if it wasn't about time to let members know that it's a way of greeting other Montanas that you meet on the road. Flash your headlights twice when you meet me or any other Montana on the road. I haven't received a flash back at me in over two years.

Im gilty on not doing it, with an explanation, I have my eyes fixed on the road ahead, and when the wife says "Look there is a Montana", by the time I look up and conferm the words and get my hand to the light flasher the Monty has passed,
But I am getting better I was able to flash 2 last year in time.
Sorry.

Have you ever flashed a Montana when you are in an SOB.

That is probably exactly what they say under their breath.

But I do flash, and I'll continue to flash you MOC'ers.

Don,
I have the same trouble.... By the time I can see an oncoming Monty and process everything and reach for the light switch they've already passed! Maybe we can get Ozz to design a Mod that will do all that automatically! Later, Dennis

Thats a good idea Dennis the government has them for airplanes they send out a signal they are frindly, so setting that up on a Monty and have it trigger the lights automaticly how lazy can we get??? where is mine at.

I always flash, but very seldom get a response. I guess at our age you are more into watching the road than who is coming at you.

I try and flash when I see an occasional Montana streaking by. The only problem is that it usually happens whenever I’m not towing and then they don’t have a clue as to who we are.

Now here's an idea. An inexpensive little transmitter gizmo that when placed on the dash will communicate with another gizmo wit the same freuence and code, then light up to let you know a Montana is coming.

If any one makes this thing, don't forget my royalties. In 1972-73 while busting my knuckles on a '60 Corvair I exclaimed, "Why doesn't someone invent a box end ratchet?" It was the '80's when they came out. That company owes me a lot of money.

Dave N,
I'm going to flash you one day, and it will not be with lights.

Although there are a lot of members out there, remember that Montana is the leader in sales for a number of years- What % of Monty owners are active members of the forum? I would venture a guess of 10%-

Good idea to bring this up again, Orv. It's been several years since we all started doing this. I've had a few flashbacks but only once where someone on the forum replied to my post that it was them. And now I've forgotten who that was. But I still do it.

After getting a return flash be sure to post in the section titled something like Was that you.

We also had one time when Montana Sky reported he flashed at us when he was solo but I didn't see him flash. I remember that was east of Spokane, WA.

By the time we can identify the oncoming Rv as a Montana and at a closing speed of maybe 120mph or more it does not leave much time for flashing but I try.

We were 0 for 5 yesterday on our trip from Yuma to Quartzsite. But we continue to try. We have had three or four encounters with other members where our flash was returned. It is rare but really, really exciting when you get a response!

I still like TrailerTrash 2's idea of putting a FFID (Friend or Foe Identification Device) on the Monty so that it will flash automatically. Like most other MOCers, by the time I can get to the turn-signal lever to flash the oncoming Monty, it's gone.

Thanks for the reminder, Orv. I, too, am slow but do try to flash. The only time that I can recall getting a return flash was last year when we were WB in Texas, maybe near El Paso, and a "convoy" of Montanas came toward us. This was made into a positive ID when it was posted on the forum (like Steve R says) and we all were identified. That was a good experience, making it more likely that we will continue trying.
