Rescue 1, are you talking about making a carrying tube for you sewer hose to carry under your rig? If so, there is a schedule 40 PVC that is already drilled with drain holes that could work fine. I have been thinking of doing that, however, I'm not quite sure how I want to attach it. Ideas?
Mike

Mike and Rescue1,
Depending on where I mount mine, one for the collapsible 7' ladder and one for the sewer hose. Rich gave me a good idea about mounting up under the front metal floor area, or I may mount on one of the 1 to 1.5" support angle iron pieces in back.
I cut some steel pieces. & burned some mounting holes in them with my Plasma cutter, I will mount the steel pieces to the angle iron, then bend some all-thread in a U-shape and bolt the tube to that.
I will take pictures if it all works out.

I think I need some explaining here. Are we not suppose to be carrying the sewer hose in the aft compartment under the water tank fill or do you have something else earmarked for that cubby hole? I think the PVC pipe under the foward storage comparment is an excellent idea. I might even look at putting one there myself to store the beach umbrella or something else long in nature.

Phill,
It would be fine there, but I am used to just pulling it out of that white tube, I had it on my old TT, it slides easily. With it all bunched and curled up in the compartment, it would be a little messier, as well as not drying out well.
Just personal preference. I will probably have some goodies stored in that rear compartment.

We've talked about another tube under the front for other things (like umbrella, handles, etc.) and some keep fishing poles in one so your idea is good. We keep one set (2 10' sections) of sewer hose in the sewer hose compartment. We carry 40 feet (4 10' sections) with us because we have found the need for that much some places. Also this gives us extra in case one springs a leak (been there, done that) and we don't have to pay the high price at CG store to replace. The whole tube idea is you can carry anything that is long and skinny in there. We are putting the carrier for the ladder inside where it will be protected.

Rescue1, ours came with the same round tube and square door yours did. Our door didn't like to stay close so I cut it off and glued on the screw on door. I then added two more pipes and carry various length sewer hoses in them.

Ozz, if you plan to carry sewer hoses in those pipes be sure they have holes in the bottom to drain any water. Or drill a few. I used a long bit to drill up through those holes, through the top of the pipe and into the frame. I then used some self tapping screws with washers to hang the pipes. They've been up there for about three years now. I checked the screws a few months ago and they were still tight.

Indy Roadrunner, I carry several lengths of sewer hose. Saves me most of the time from having to splice together two hoses. I also have a heavier one I use only in freezing weather.

That rear cubby hole is fine but there are times (a lot of times) when you need more sewer hose and that cubbby hole can only carry so much.Thse fifth wheels have the dump valve sort of in the middle or more toward the front of the camper and most of the C/G dump pipes are near the rear of the Camper so you need more hose to start with. We started out using the hose from our TT and it was way to short.

Well, thanks for the explaination and it makes sense to me. I guess I should consider carrying extra hose. I guess I have been lucky so far as I have never been to a place that I needed more than 10 feet to hook up. I think the only place I have ever stayed any length of time that had full hookups is Top Sail Hill Preserve and the dump was right in the middle of the trailer - didn't even need 10 ft.
Well - back to Wal-Mart.

I bought some screw protectors I plan to put on those bare screw points in the sewer hose locker, when we get ours. Those screw points look like a sure way to hole a hose to me.

Steve,
We noticed the same thing about the screws sticking out in that compartment. It was one of the reasons we did not want to stuff all the hoses in there. I forgot to mention we also use all 40' at home to get to the sewer connection. We have one in the backyard and it was going to take an act of congress to get another so we decided more hose was cheaper and easier on our nerves. At the KOA we stayed at in Williams, AZ there were three connections at every site. Great planning.

Sue, do you get all 40 feet of hose in that small compartment?

Glen has added two lengths of 6" PVC pipe under our front storage area. We have several lengths of sewer hoses in one and fishing poles, long handles, etc in the second one. He secured them to the floor with "plumbers tape" (does that sound right?), the metal strapping with holes in it. This setup has worked very well for us.

The six inch PVC piping is available at plumbing supply businesses, not your regular hardware supply stores. No problem fitting a foldup ladder in that size but the plastic fence post sounds ideal for the ladder.

Judy,
Sounds like a great set up. I think it's good to use all of the spaces wisely for storage, those storage tubes free up space, so you can put items that need to be protected from the weather, in the basement.

We picked up some molded 'C' clamps with brackets at Home depot that fit right around the pipe.Did not have to drill any holes in the pipe. The one we installed was just a 4 footer and we do have another 8 footer that we will install in back of this one when we get ambitious again. In our experience there are 3 things you can't have enough of..Sewer hose, Water hose and Electrical cable???

Judy, I think I'm going to go with the 6-inchers this time. I like to have the twist on connectors already on the hose but only one side of that will fit in my four inchers. Constantly installing and removing connectors seems to eventually wear out the end of the hose to where it will leak. My hoses keep getting shorter this way. So having room to leave the connectors in place is a big plus to me. It also will speed up setup and breakdown time.

In my above post I mentioned I had a 8 footer in the garage..That is true but a 8 footer is to long to go side to side under the camper..7 footer ok and it would be better to go with a 6 incher so everything will fit into the tube..

Yes it will. I have the tubes in the garage but have not got around to installing them. The 7 foot ladder is as with everything else a trade off.I mean the top of the 3400 is about 12 feet off the ground so how big of a ladder do I want to haul around.Where are you going to put the tubes..I was going to secure them under the front compartment. There are just so many things to do to that thing before I feel confident about going long term on the road..We are defiantly going to replace the shear bolts with the longer ones once as I can determine which ones are in the camper??
Rich& Helen N.Ridgeville,Ohio.

Rich,
I just got my 7' ladder today, it doesn't fit the 4" tube I will have to go up in size, you may want to re-check yours, and maybe we have different ladders, I got the steps on both sides one, so maybe that is the difference. More shopping, larger list.

My ladder fits in the 4 inch tube ok..we must have different ladders..To tell you the truth I would rather have gone with the 6 inch tube in any case. I do not carry the ladder in the tube.I have the slider tray in the front compartment and the ladder rides alongside the tray. My tubes carry Sewer hoses.

Steve, I think you'll be pleased with the 6" tubes. They are very roomy and there's no problem at all with clearance. And it's nice having a place to keep the connectors right on the hoses.
