Tube (Richfaa)

Hi Rich,
I think I read you bought the 7' fold up Two sided-steps ladder.
I took your lead and ordered one today from CW, it was on sale.
Will it fit in a 4" tube?
I think it read 3.5" or so, but sometimes they have something sticking out.
I cut and welded some brackets to hold the tubes, one for the sewer hose as well. I will bend some all-thread in a U-shape and secure them to one of the braces under our 3400 bottom.
Thanks,
Ozz

Yes it will. I have the tubes in the garage but have not got around to installing them. The 7 foot ladder is as with everything else a trade off.I mean the top of the 3400 is about 12 feet off the ground so how big of a ladder do I want to haul around.Where are you going to put the tubes..I was going to secure them under the front compartment. There are just so many things to do to that thing before I feel confident about going long term on the road..We are defiantly going to replace the shear bolts with the longer ones once as I can determine which ones are in the camper??

Thanks, I will attach one to the cross member the Black plastic is screwed to, under the desk slide area, and one up front, maybe, with access on the other side. (One sewer hose, and one ladder)
I just made a list of things to do to complete my Monte, 37 items, I have been working on it since we bought it almost daily. I need a vacation!
I like your idea about under the front, I'll look into that in the morning, good thinking!
I was confused about the bolts, original post said Pin, but he came back and said bolt, I think I was wrong on that, but really don't know how they engineered that system. Maybe you could jot that down and bring it up at the factory.

Someone here on the MOC several months ago mentioned installing a square plastic fence post inside the basement for the folding step ladder. We plan on doing this also. You can get these fence posts at Lowes - maybe HD also, haven't checked with them. Also one member at the Shasta rally had an 8" tube under the front for his rug. Was a nice setup.

Parrothead,
I do like the idea of using the underside as storage, so we can keep the basement for items that we want to keep secure, or dry. As you might imagine, I will have my tools and my many toolboxes with us. My Sue will have her sewing machine, quilting, and her hobby items with her as well. I fix, she creates.

Ozz. The shear pins are bolts.Dale describes them in a post I can not find right now. Don't know that I have 37 items on my list you are very inventive but you keep giving me ideas (good ones) so who knows..

Rich, remind about those bolts at the Rally. If you find them, I need to pick some up, too.

Well here is something to look for. I am doing the Hinge mod on those black plastic things that extend when the slides come out. Look at the shaft on the good side that the extender is attached to.When I took hold of mine the extender came right off the shaft. There is a lock washer on the others..none on this one...just another little thing courtsey of our skilled craftsmen. With time it would havre dropped off while traveling down the road. Will it ever end???

I have that same 7 footer and store it in the basement. It doesn't take much room and fits between the locker doors. It's easy to slide it out. I can reach anywhere on the Montana without getting on the top step. Maybe someday I'll add a tube for the ladder but that seems like a lot of weight to be bouncing around in a tube slung under the body of the house. I'd hate for it to drop the tube and I run over it on the road. PVC can crack and possibly break loose from the mounts if it gets enough jolt from enough weight.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Tell your Sue that I found a great case at JoAnns for keeping quilting and craft stuff in. It has a board that folds out for pressing as well as lots of storage. In our unit it fits under the wire shelves at the end of the closet. I also use the chairs for storing a lot of my craft stuff. I forgot to mention the square fence post will hang from the ceiling of the basement. You can only stack things so high and this seemed like a good solution to some unused space.

Sue,
Cool, Sue shops at JoAnns, (she just said; "I love JoAnns"), and will see if she can find that here in town.
I just bought a long 4" pipe and end caps with screw on plugs, so I will use Rich's idea and look under the front for mounting opportunities.
Thanks, Sue.

I stuck it under the front compartment where the batteries are and back far enough to clear the front jacks.Had to take the batteries out, used carriage bolts and just drilled through the flooring..Easy job..will haul the sewer hose in there. Also installed the bike rack on the ladder.I don't like that at all and one day will install a hitch on the rear.Remembering the broken ladder posts I used heavy duty tie wraps and tie wrapped that thing to the ladder, top center and bottom. It is not going to move at all .When hauling the bikes we have the quick release front wheels so will do that and firmly secure the bikes to the rack.Started on the hinge replacement but got side tracked when I found one of the cable retractors minus a lock washer allowing it to slide off the shaft .Did not like that arrangement so used some cable clamps to reinforce that area.. having such fun.. Maybe when I grow up I can be a skilled old world craftsman...

When we bought ours it had a small piece of pvc pipe with a square door on it hanging under the battery box/front storage area. It worked okay but the square door was right in the way of the snap pins for the landing gear. I have already removed it and have plans of replacing it with 4" schedule 40 pvc pipe. I figure I'll put it back in the same place. I'll just make sure it's out of the way of the landing gear. I have seen several 5'ers with the same kind of setup to store equipment under their rig so I figured it wouldn't look too hillbilly...

I ordered the case on line from JoAnns. Ours here in this town are not always well stocked. I got it when they were doing a 50% off day for on line orders. It looks like a suitcase - not on rollers - they would add extra (here comes the bad word) weight! LOL

Sue. I will make sure Helen see's your post about the case for storage. She is a craft nut and one of the things she liked about the 3400 was all the room for her crafty stuff. She has let me put all the stuff on board that I wanted to and all the room that is left over is for her crafty stuff...I am in big trouble..

I have all the cupboards above the big window empty still and they are reserved for crafts stuff. But the chairs are also a good storage place for small stuff. I make jewelry and that is where all of that is stored. The quilt/craft case I mentioned is really neat - I especially like the ironing pad because it folds up in the case and I think I can get rid of my portable ironing board. I don't iron - just press quilt pieces. LOL

Rescue 1, are you talking about making a carrying tube for you sewer hose to carry under your rig? If so, there is a schedule 40 PVC that is already drilled with drain holes that could work fine. I have been thinking of doing that, however, I'm not quite sure how I want to attach it. Ideas?

Yes, I figured I could just drill straight through the pipe and bolt the tube through the metal flooring that is already there. The previous pipe just had screws holding the pipe on, but I figured the 40 pipe was heavier so I would use bolts. I could take a couple of pictures of the installation if you want. I already have an 8' piece of pipe, I just need the caps and bolts. Pipe was free, couldn't beat the price...
