Thanks, Bob... now I can sleep...
Seriously though, is there anyone that has a 13.5K that wished they had gotten a 15K for their second A/C?

The issue to consider is How much space do you need to cool..If you have a window A/C in say a 12x15 bedroom how many BTU is it.We had a 7K BTU in a previous home 12/15 bedroom and it froze us out.Look at your whole house A/C and see how big it is.We had a 13.5 in our TT. I would say the inside of the TT was perhaps 240SF.It did the job. We were in the outer banks last July.Temp in the 90's Humidity about the same. Comfortable inside. Also it is not a matter of how cold you can get it inside the camper/home but what is the comfort level. If it is 95 with 90 % humidity outside and 80 with 55% humidity inside you are feeling good. We ARE having the 2nd A/C (13.5 btu)ordered in our 3400Rl primarily 1. The 3400 is a LOT larger than our previous TT and 2.The insulative qualities of a camper are not,(IMHO) all that great. We got the artic package not for helping with the cold but to provide a little better insulation for the A/C. having said that..get whatever you want..

I think that if you check all campers they are 120 volts and 50amp or 30 amp service. I have never seen or heard of a TT or 5ver or MH wired for 220 volts. Park models and Mobile homes, yes but no campers. The campers must be reinforced for the 2 air and if not could break the roof supports or ceiling. Yes ordering a new camper for around 100 bucks you can have it reinforced for the 2nd air. If you decide to get one later, I think it will be a better experience than putting one up and have to fish wires and roof problems later. We have a 13.5 for the second air in ours. At night when watching TV or having guests you can run the air in the bed room and not having to turn up the TV or yelling at each other.Just 2 cents worth.

hazmic, do you feel that 13.5K is sufficient? Or would you like to have 15K for the 2nd A/C? This is the debate posed on another forum.

We have to 13.5K unit as second AC and it works fine. If I could have gotten a 15K unit in low profile the same day I was getting this one at Camping World I more than likely would have gotten the 15K unit. It's only about 160 bucks more I think and amp draws are very close from what I remember but they did not have one had to order it and I was doing it that day due to leaving out on vacation few days later. So I got the 13.5K Penguin unit.

Yes,I think the 13.5 is big enough for us. We live in Iowa, so we get some days that are very humided and hot. Most of the time we use the 15k. If you get the biggest one, it cycles off and on all the time and doesn't get the chance to cool like it should. Just food for thought.
Also we found out that we have day and night shades and dark windows that came with the arctic package. With the dark part down it's hotter then when the white is exposed, its cooler inside. The dark windows and dark shades make it hotter inside and makes the air work very hard and not cool down. I hope that makes sense.

HAZMIC...
Our roof is fine to support the second air conditioner. It was an option in our unit but we didn't think we would need it. Keystone does not only just reinforce the ones that are having the second air conditioners installed. My husband is a licensed electrician and he knows how to wire the second air conditioner in. He wired extra plug in for our washer and dryer. We are not putting in a 220 air conditioner. The 50 amp 5th wheel plug going into is 220 volts but is used as two 120 volt lines. Put a tester on plug and you can see this.
And just so you don't worry about our roof falling in.
Don't want you to get mad at me.

When we got here to Az.in Aug. it was 112 above and our Challenger only had one 15,000 and within a week we had someone install another one.We asked and paid for a 13,500 but they only had a 15,000 on hand so got it for the same price. When two months ago we got our Montana they put a 13,500 in the bedroom as part of the deal.Trust me there is a difference between the two.My Montana said it was wired for a second air but when they went to do it they had to run there own wiring as it wasn't.Jim&Jeanne

Next Wednesday I am going to my dealership to order my Low-profile Dometic 15,000btu w/ heatstrip a/c for my bedroom. This is sure going to help keep things cool this summer when the temps get into the high 90's to low 100's. =)

On our trip down to Yuma this month, "the 22nd to be exact" we will be having a penguin 13500 installed by camping world in Portland OR. It gets pretty warm up in the bedroom at night even with the main air on, we are hoping this will cure what ails us.

Jim, Are you saying that you were disappointed in the Dometic 13.5K overall, or just compared to the Carrier? We're are getting the low profile 13.5K Dometic in front. Just curious about feedback on it.
I do like to be cooled down in hot humid weather. 80 degrees is not cool enough for me in the Monty in 95+ heat.

Dave,
Just for giggles ask your dealership the price difference between the low-pro 13.5 and 15k btu a/c. If my memory is correct it is less than $110 dollars installed, and that includes the heat strip. As you know I chose the 15k btu, going next week to place the order as it takes 2 weeks to get here. =)

The 15,000 up front was much cooler when it was 100 above then the 13,500 in the 80's.At least in my opinion.I feel that for less than $100.00 for the difference I would go bigger. Jim

Dave,,the Montana I ordered and The one you will be ordering have the 15K A/C in the main room with the low profile Dometic in the bedroom. 13.5K in a bedroom of that size should freeze you out..and cold air falls to the floor so some of it should spill down to the lower level

Dave,
Rich is correct, a 13.5btu should do the job. I am one of those guys that I would rather have too much, than not enough. And since the cost difference was so minimal I chose the larger. The other reason I went with a larger unit is during the months of July and August the temps at the river can get to 110 degrees. Usually after a few hours of being on the water we come back to the rv to get out of the sun, have lunch and watch a movie to cool off. I do not like having the main a/c on while watching tv as it is loud and makes me turn the movie up even louder. Now the plan is to use both a/c's to cool off the coach and then just run the bedroom while I have family and friends over in the living room. Hopefully things wont be so loud this summer. =)
