Storage Compartment Locks

Decided to replace the storage locks on the RV, I've been told that the ones Keystone puts on are very generic, and many are keyed the same. Was going to get the "Tubular Cam Locks" (Keyed Alike), but I came across these "Combinated Cam Locks" from Padlocks4Less

I like the idea of being able to lock, and unlock the compartments without having to carry keys with me, I usually leave them open, because I don't like having to carry keys while outside the RV, now my son, and wife will be able to unlock them without having any keys. Cost is $10.65 each (For quanities from 1 - 10), with shipping cost about $12.00 each. Don't know how they'll work out, but they look interesting.

I agree about the keys being a hassle. These are definitely something I would want. Not too happy about that shipping. Maybe if you ordered more than one, it comes down per lock... I hope.

Should work in cold weather, too, I would think...

Before ya all spend a lot of coin, you might want to do a search here at MOC. We have discussed how switching the locks will not keep the bad guys out if they really want in, cause about 3 seconds and 1 crow bar will blast those doors open and now you have a repair bill as well. Just a thought. We were gonna change ours, decided not to bother. Good luck with your change!

I'm not worried about professional, determined thieves. As you said, you won't stop them. I'm only worried about the spur of the moment young would-be thief or vandal who would try to take advantage of an unattended coach. Maybe I'm the only one who has camped in a CG where there seem to have small groups of teenagers that tend to form after dark and start roving around. Their initial intent is harmless, but they seem to have a tendency to get carried away on occassion. I've heard boys like to show off once in a while...

I don't think $10 a lock is too much. Depends on the shipping, though.

Dave, sounds like a state campground situation to me, heavy summer time useage. Are these young men (hoodlums) walking around with a 751 in their pockets??

Not been a problem for us, YET! There is always a first time, and then there is insurance. SIGH

I was just thinking that... you read my mind. I was definitely talking about State CGs. This would not happen in long term parks, I wouldn't think. And like you said during heavy use, holiday times.

Yep! And, unless they have a 751 in their pockets, which I would find unlikely, they are gonna have to pop that lock. If they are stupid enough to pop a lock when the campground is THAT full, well, silly boys! Have heard from other campers where they will steal the beer out of your cooler outside, tho!

My experience that if any opportunity presents itself, there will always be a teen (and some adults) will be foolish enough to try just about anything. Especially in a group situation.

I was never the one who ran naked acrross the college football field at night. I was always the one who talked him into it..

Luckily, I'm way past that stage...

I'm not Countryguy but,
A "751" is the key number that fits 99.9% of RV compartment locks.

The other 1% are the locks that have been replaced like jpbcny is doing.

Well that makes sense... . See, Dusty, that was stupid question...

Thanks, Ken, for helping me out in my efforts to make myself look stupid... Somehow didn't seem like that much work...

I guess I wasn't very clear on the cost, I ordered 5 locks, and the total cost for the locks, and shipping was $ 59.06

I replaced the locks on our new 2980 with some that I found at Home Depot. I think they were about 6.00 a piece. I know you guys mentioned the key thing but we have tried to used those combo locks at work and over a period of time the numbers in the brass corode up so bad that you have a hard time reading the numbers. Just my .02 worth. Al
