Winterizing with RV fluid that is....

Many posts over the years, something like: Why doesn't the water pump pick up the RV antifreeze from the winterizing port?

My standard answer (which does work by the way).... raise the RV antifreeze jug as high as the connection port on the camper (or higher)... and yes, this does work.

Others answer: Remove that spring loaded check valve.
My response to that one (in my head and looking at that thing).... how in the world does it come out without breaking it. Nay, I'll just keep raising the jug.

Another answer: Turn the screen filter around so it will push the little button in. Actually, I couldn't get the screen out either .... until .....

TODAY!

I fiddled with it and got the screen out. Turn it around, put a second garden hose washer on it and set the jug on the ground and turned on the pump!

You guys was right! It sucked right up!

So, after 5 years of Montana Ownership and using an RV winterizing port (and not having to pump the stuff with an attached hose right at the pump like all my previous trailers).... my bull headedness finally got deflated.

It worked like a champ! (after I figured out how simple it was to get that screen out after all!)

I do it the easy way - don't touch it as I live in AZ! LOL

My method is just as easy. Poor 3 gallons in the fresh tank flush it through the system maybe 10 minutes done
In the spring flush it out good with two or three tanks of water no antifreeze residue left

I just drain the water heater then hook it up to the air compressor at 40psi and blow out all the water.

We just drain all water out and then blow lines out with air compressor.
Our method of winterizing for 30+ years.
Most current method..... Spend winters in Florida.
