Golf Cart Batteries

As part of our new Big Sky, we are having the Golf Cart batteries installed as part of the package. The dealer is quoting $400. It looks like about $300 with the box. Does this seem out of line?

I think I paid less than $70 each for my two Trojan T-105s, the Blue Sea box was also about $70 (on ebay). I bought the batteries from Continental Battery in Harlingen TX (in the RGV). I installed them myself. Dealer labour will add at least another $100, so maybe not too far out of line.

What are the advantages of the golf cart batteries. we use two 12V deep cycle batteries and have on all our Rv's. We do not boondock, we do proper battery maint.Our batteries are now 33 months old with no problems.

We do boondock and with a Big Sky, the 12v lights are halogen. The golf cart batteries have extended power according to what I've read.

With GC batteries and a good inverter, we can dry camp with a generator, turn the generator off at 8:00 p.m. and run the TV, DVD player and other accessories until after midnight. The GC batteries have much greater storage capacity.

Rich, I don't think it matters much in your situation. You like full hooks all the time so batteries really aren't a big issue. As you noted you practice good battery maint. habits.

Our dealer installed two 6 Volt Golf Cart batteries including boxes with covers and venting to the outside in our late 2006 3400RL as part of the purchase price which was heavily discounted from other dealer quotes we received. Most other dealers wanted an extra charge for batteries, containers, covers, venting and installation. As I recall right now the quotes were in the $200 to $300 range. There price already was much higher for the 3400RL plus a bunch of add-on charges which I thought should be included in the base purchase price. I would guess the dealer is trying to improve his profit margin a bit. We have dry camped for over 3 days on the two 6V Golf Cart Batteries, in fairly cold weather w/o a problem. The furnace ran quite bit which I think would help drain the batteries quite a bit faster. Haven't dry camped lately but the last time we did I didn't think the batteries were not quite a strong as they were when new. Haven't dry camped for the last 4 1/2 months since we have been on shore power here in AZ since last November 3rd. Will find out more in April. Do monitor the fluid level frequently and refill as needed.

We looked into golf cart batteries but were sold on the AGM batteries. Glad we got them.
