Dometic 9100 awning motor replacement

I have agreed to replace the Dometic 9100 power awning motor for a friend. The directions say to pin the right side cap to prevent spring unwinding. It also sys that power to the motor must be used to align the holes in cap and shaft. The motor blows a fuse and cant be used. How else can I rotate the shaft to align the holes?

You should be able to rotate the awning tube against the spring tension to be able to pin. I pinned both ends to pull my tube from its hardware. But in your case with the motor side pinned, you should be safe if all you do is disconnect motor power wiring connector and do what you have to do to pull the motor. I would test the motor first by un-connecting the power connector and putting 12vdc to the connector to the motor. Be aware that the awning tube will rotate one way or another depending on how you put the 12 hot wire and the ground in the motor connector. John
