tires manufacture location
Called Camping World today about purchasing new tires for the Monty. They suggested the Goodyear Marathons. The service guy insisted they were made in the US. Does anyone know if there is a marking on the tire that reveals where it was made? The size is ST235/80R16 load range E. Thanks

I have visually seen Marathons with made in China on them. It maybe they make them in both countries?? Just not sure. I guess I'd ask the Camping World rep to visually look over what he has in stock and tell you where they're made or ask to see them yourself.

I have seen the country of origin on tires made somewhere else besides here. I agree. Have Camping World rep show you how he knows it was made here.
You are doing the right thing. You do not want the chineese tires.

Thanks. I called Goodyear customer service and spoke with a very polite young lady. Her data base shows all of their tires in that size are now manufactured in the US, although there could be some old stock out there. She also said if I give her the DOT numbers, she could determine their orgin. She furthered advised it would say on the tire if they were made in China.

Have heard some are made in US. But a friend just put Marathons on his and "Made in China" is right there on the side wall.
Here is one link to place of manufacturer codes. There are lots of codes. You will need to look at the code on the tire, then look it up here to see where it was manufactured if it does not state the country on the tire.

I can tell you for certain that units coming from factory in Feb 2010 had GY Marathons with China stamped on them. I have a set. They have 09 dates on them. Made in China is stamped just below and to the right of the N in Marathon on the outside.
I have also read that Marathons are made in the US now. If I were going to get a new set of Marathons I would be certain they were made in the US.
Mine will be changed out within the month to a US made tire. Probably GY G614 RSTs.

I believe it's the law that any product not made here has to have the country of origin stamped on the product somewhere. Just check the tires before you have them installed.

The Freestar tires we just got rid of said "Made in China" in letters big enough to read without aids. And the replacement tires say "Made in USA" in about the same location and type size. It should be there somewhere.

Update. Camping World ordered the tires. My appointment was for this coming Monday to have them installed. I made a trip to CW last week and again spoke with the service rep. He insisted his distributor assured him they were made in the USA. Well, my wife called yesterday to make sure he had received the tires before we pulled the camper over there. He stated they had just come in but he hadn't had a chance to look at them. Wife insisted he visually check them before we made the trip. Several hours later he called back. BIG SUPRISE. They have "made in China" on the sidewall. Cancelled the order and demanded our deposit refunded. Guess I'll be looking for a plan b now. First trip is this Wed to Ocean City, Md, aprox 200 miles. I'll just have to take a chance on what I have and deal with it when we get back. Thanks for all the info.

JLG are you anywhere near a Sam's Club or Discount Tire? They should be able to set you up with the Michelin Rib's or BFG Commercial T/A.
