Norcold 2118 Issue

Hello,
We have been having trouble with the fridge, and it appears that all the seals to the doors need replacement. Apparently seals cannot be replaced without replacing all the doors. We are looking at about $2,000 for new doors.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks folks.

Ours is the same year model, the only problem we have had is the center flapper that seals both sides sticks occasionally, I spray it at the bottom with wd40 and it works fine.

What is happening that requires the seals to be replaced?

Ours had seals that didn't fully seal in a couple spots. I reformed the seal using heat and used filler to cause the seal to "fatten up." I know, it is ridiculous that they don't sell replacement seals.

First- it’s not unusual for our trips to start at 100+ degrees making it difficult to achieve and retain adequate chilling. The primary issue is excessive condensation- it’s really bad.
By the time we settle in more moderate climates on our trips- it’s a couple of days to achieve temp and then we wrestle with condensation.

Condensation is often due to lack of seal. That center flap must work properly. Those seals must also touch all around. That door seal can be resurrected to a degree of functionality.

The hot weather and getting the temp down for ours required adding fans to the rear of the fridge. The factory did a poor job of creating a space in which air would flow effeciently when the fridge is mounted in a slide. A forum search on this contains lots of good input for various fixes.

Thanks. Will the flaps be new if we order the new doors?

They may not. Almost all of the doors need a 5/16” washer under the left door (both of our last two Montana’s had doors that the flapper didn’t close x- which caused condensation and lack of cooling). Take a look to see if the center flapper is hitting on the bottom. I find it hard to believe you have bad seals. I’m not saying you don’t, just that it is hard to believe.

Steve, if you have a socket and a 5/16” washer, you can do it easily yourself. First close the door and see if your flapper is hanging up. You can just close the left door and see if it is hitting on the bottom and not closing. Next, lift up with your foot under the door and see if the flapper closes now. If that is indeed the issue, at the top of your left door, there is a plastic cover over the hinge. On the underneath side you can get a grip and pull the plastic cover off. There are three bolts. Remove them and the door will lift off of a pin at the bottom. Place a 5/16” washer over the pin, replace the door and replace the three screws. Try it and see if it works. You may need more than one washer. After it closes properly, replace the plastic cover. Use a dollar bill to see if the seal is now secure. Hope this helps.

Had to take the 2021 3762BP back, because the fridge door would begin beeping, the Tech use a shim, someplace, it fixed the issue, so for. Good Luck.

Happy trails.

Ours developed that also. Had to put shims under the right door. Same process. Took longer to find the washers than to fix it. I keep a mini tool set inside - cordless drill, drill attachment kit, fuses, meter, some hand tools. Most of my “honey do’s” are inside anyway. And, if I only had one tool inside- a #2 square drive screwdriver.

Use a thin nylon washer installed on the peg of the left door. This will eliminate your closing problem. We had the same issue and this was a great fix. I had used silicone spray on the bottom of the flap before installing the washer.

OK, had the same problem with the fridge in our 3120RL. Finally gave up and started closing the left door first, pull the flapper closed by hand then close the right door. Will try the washer fix!
