Fuel Perks

We generaly shop at one of two grocery stores here, either a Publix or a Winn Dixie. Winn Dixie has a customer rewards card that they swipe through a card reader each time you go in which allows you to get discounts on select merchandise. They have just started giving you discounts on fuel based on how much you spend on groceries. It rolls over I think every 30 days. The card is free. You have to redeem your fuel perks at a local Shell statuion here that has competative pricing. I used my Winn dixie Card there yesterday and saved $.45 a gallon on diesel. The discount is only good for 20 gallons, but $9.00 is $9.00.

Dillions, Kroger and Kwik Shops (owned the same), High V (in Kansas and Missouri) and Safeway also do it. We can't use it at home because we live in the boonies and any of those stores are 86 miles round trip (kind of negates the savings), but we do use them when we travel.

Krogers give 10 cents per $100 spent on store items. It zeros out at he end of the month and does not roll over. Maximum discount is $1.00 per gallon. That means you would need to buy $1000 within a month to get the $1.00 discount. We usually get 30 to 40 cents. No limits on number of gallons. Doesn't stop the pain-at-the-pump, just dulls it a bit.

Stiles,
That also applies to prescriptions so for some of us it's not hard to roll up 1000 dollars. Also you can get $25 free food for transferred prescriptions.
Safeway also has fuel discount.

With Krogers, if they have their own gas station on site, you get about a three cent per gallon discount on each gallon of gas or diesel purchased.

I use the Visa Platinum credit card. Only card I know of that gives five percent on diesel. It doesn't matter where you purchase your fuel.

Rewards cards like that work in conjunction with the discounts from the stores at the pump. I use both when I use a supermarket discount card and get both the discount and the rebate. Since I use a discover, the 5% is only certain months, the rest of the time it's 1%, but then I take the rebate amount and use it on discount restaurant cards and so we eat well and get another discount. Since I also belong to all the fan clubs, (Red Lobster, Chili's, On the border, etc), I also get coupons on my email so here's how we work it: Supermarket gives us discount gas, discover gives us at least a 1% rebate, when we get $45 in rebate money be get a $50 card for let's say Red Lobster, Red lobster sends us a $4 off coupon and then we go to dinner. Since we can hold the cards indefinitely we generally don't use the card until we can get another discount. Yes we're cheap

Safeway also has fuel discount.
We were given a special card the other day at Safeway that we "were selected" to get triple points until April.

Winn-Dixie was recently purchased by Bi-Lo our local chain here in South Carolina. Look for Winn-Dixie to start remodeling stores and improving their sales promotions in the near future. The Fuelperks program from Bi-Lo also includes many deals where you can get instant perks in addition to the perks earned through total dollars purchased. Example: buy three of a certain manufacturer's lineup of items and get 20 cents in Fuelperks instantly. You can also buy the Shell giftcards, earn perks on those, and then redeem them while using all of your perks. Tons of ways to save with the perks.
