Christmas in June

As a precursor, I must state that I am still in the year-long process of getting the Autoformer re-installed in the new rig (maybe at the Marion rally??). Now, for the Christmas part, since I had DW's approval, I just placed an order for an Optima Blue Top battery and a battery switch to resolve the undying appetite that this rig has that seems to drain the battery way too fast. This installation will be simple (setting up as in a boat with a switchable starting battery for the generator and a house battery for the rig). Planning for this install in the next couple of weeks. I am also ordering an automatic start module (Onan EC-30W) for the generator and will have to have it installed prior to the rally and our vacation immediately following the rally. This module monitors the shore feed and starts the generator automatically when shore power drops. In addition, it also monitors the inside rig temperature and will start the generator at pre-set temperatures to allow the air conditioner to start when we are travelling. It even has a function that will re-charge the batteries when needed. This is a much needed mod to our rig since we travel with the pets crated in the rig and will keep them in cool comfort during our trips during the summer months. Gotta admit, that a loving DW who understands "wants" and "needs" is a great asset!!!

That is a nice plan, Bingo!

I am guessing the only thing I'd worry about is a generator starting while at a fuel station or in a tunnel where this MIGHT be a no no since you'll be making all this automatic. Do you know about this concern? Is there one? I am not familiar enough that a generator creates an external spark anywhere but for a spark isn't air needed and if air is present can't they contain some fumes? Just curious.

I suppose just like turning off propane when I stop at a fuel station or know I'm approaching a tunnel will you need to disable the automatic startup?

Sounds like a valid concern Art, but I am thinking that a propane generator does not have any external spark, since it is similar to an internal combustion engine. I would think that that line of reasoning would mean that you could not start your car or truck at the fuel pump. Certain tunnels require the propane be turned off anyway which would prevent starting. Anybody know for sure??
