We've wanted air conditioning in the bathroom for quite some time. As most of you know, the heat can really build up in that small, enclosed space.
Here is our solution. We tapped into the main duct running front to back, curbside, just a few inches from the bathroom.
In order to see what was above the ceiling, we first had to remove it!
We made some new duct work out of aluminum by cutting and bending. After measuring for the umpteenth time, we cut into the main A/C duct and inserted the end of the new duct work. After taping around it, we couldn't feel any escaping cool air.
Next, we insulated the new duct work to prevent condensation:
Using the existing hole for the bathroom light for easy access, we drilled a new hole in the ceiling and the duct work.
The new vent is from the basement - we'll need a new one, but that's for another day. We riveted the ceiling to the metal framing under the trim strip.
We relocated the existing light by offsetting it a few inches.
After putting the trim back, by using silicone and braces while it dries, we put some putty in some places.
