Dually Replacement Tires
Will need to replace my oem tires on my `06 GMC CC Dually this year. I am towing an `09 3400RL and trailer weight is 12,860 w/o full tanks. Gross weight of tow vehicle and 5er loaded with fuel , passengers and camping junk is 21,320. Any suggestions for replacement brands and your experience towing? Thanks as usual!

I have found that my choices were limited to the size of tire that GM put on in_'08. I have 225x75R17. There are only two tires made in that size, Generals (OEM) and Firestone Transforce HT. Neither of these would be my choices and If I could I would replace with either Michelins or BF Goodrich. Just make sure you get tires that match your weight ratings. LonnieB is a tire dealer in Texico, NM and has recommended several different tires based on size and load range. GCWR is not as important as the GAWR and actual weight you put on the rear wheels, which is "actual" pin weight plus other gear in truck with just the rear wheels on the scale. Hope this makes sense, if not, ask more......
AND, If I haven't welcomed you to "The Best Darned Forum on the WWW!!!!" then welcome!!

I would love to put Michelins on my ride, but they do not make the same size, the 17" wheel and 225 is the problem.

I put Goodyear Silent Armor Pros on my 05 Chevy 3500 Dually and love them. In Western New York snow district I need something with good traction. These Goodyears provide good traction and decent mileage. Just purchased a 2010 2955 but haven't had a chance to make use of it yet, can't wait till warmer weather.

I just put the same, Goodyear Silent Armor Pros A/T, on mine and they seem great. Quieter than I thought they would be with an aggressive looking A/T tread. My last tires were OME Bridgestone A/T and were very poor on wet grass.

I am also looking for new tires for my 06 Dodge dually and had a discount tire man suggest I change from 235/80/17 to a 265/70/17 size tire. He swears there will be NO issues with clearance between the rear duals even with the rig on loaded and goin down the road. There are alot more tires available in this size with better load ratings for sure but I wanted to check with some of the tire guys on this site who I will trust to know the answer! So with that said..........what do you KNOW about this size change and has anybody else done it? Thanks for the help.

According to the chart I found the 2 sizes are almost the same width and the 265/70 is .6" smaller in diameter so they should work fine

ratfink11, first of all, welcome to the family.
There are so many brands and types of tires available, I would need to know a few more things before I could make any recommendations.
1. Do you drive only on paved roads?
2. Do you drive in snow, ice, or mud?
3. Will ride quality be a determining factor?
4. What is most important to you, quality or cost?
The highest mileage and best riding tires are going to be the Michelins, they are also going to be the most expensive.
exav8tr, in your size, LT225/75R17 LRE, the Goodyear Silent Armour is also now available.
Jim Jarvis, I will agree with you on the OEM Bridgestone, it's not much on traction, but it's not Bridgestone's best A/T either. About 25% of my driving is off highway, and sometimes in pretty severe conditions where getting stuck could mean a very long walk for help. I am on my third set of Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos, and have never had traction problems with them.
nunya, here is what I KNOW to be true. The LT235/80R17 can be replaced with the LT265/70R17 on MOST Dodge trucks, but not all. The space between the duals will be reduced by 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch, which is ok as long as you still have around 3/4 of an inch between the tires at the bottom where the sidewalls bulge out a bit. The 235 is 30mm (1.18 inches) narrower than the 265.

I've had Michelons before...they are excellent tires, probably the best available. However, in shopping for tires for the D/W's Acura, I've found several other brands of quality tires with better treadwear, traction and temperature values, for one and one half times LESS the cost of the Michelons.

I run Hercules Terra Trac's (LT 235 85 R16) rated at #2778 on a dually setup. The ride isn't bad and mileage is in the 40,000 + range. My travels are 95% paved roads.

Mine are whatever came OEM on the 08 Ford. At 27 K Plus miles they are looking real good. They are "Off road" tires and are sort of Noisy. They look like they will do 50 k or more easy.
