Leaky Shower

Hey folks I did a search trying to find out if anyone else had a problem with a shower leaking and could not find any results for my searches. I have a 2007 3585SA which I full time in. I bought it new a few months back. Over the past week I have noticed two problems in the bathroom. 1 the toilet does not hold water( found the answer for that here). Two the shower has started leaking. I take a shower then get out look at the small space between the shower and vanity and bam there's water. Tried to silicone caulk around the inside in the small gap between the shower walls and pan and that has not helped. Anyone else have any problems and was able to fix it? I have an appointment with the dealer Monday but would rather fix a small item like this on my own so that I don't have to drag it to the dealer and then lost a days wages.

Hi BearMacDaddy. We had the same problem. Bernie caulked just like you. Here's my question, did you caulk both sides of the shower? That was what worked for us. Be sure you caulk both sides. Some men like duct tape. Not my Bernie. He's a caulk man all the way!

I caulked once, dealer caulked twice under warranty, before the leaking stopped (we think). I made sure that the dealer recognized that if the leakage was not stopped that thye would agree that it would be fixed again (more caulking??) as a warranty item. They agreed with me, so document your repairs through the dealer if possible, that way if the fixes extend past the warranty period, at least you are on record that the problem arose during the warranty period. I am sure that is up to the dealer, but ours is a good one.

As Tammy stated, I re-caulked ours along where the glass sits on the fiberglass bottom - the entire edge. I then cauled where the glass sits in the frame on the bottom and up each side about 3 inches. ALSO, and this is the important part, examine the shower metal really carefully. There are joints that are well made, but not water tight. I also caulked these - especially in the valley where the door opens. Then after being contorted in that tiny little shower, do the same thing on the outside just like the inside. I let it dry and then checked for leaks over the next few days. I had a few drops. re-caulked those areas and no more water.

Bear, you would be better off taking it to the dealer. On mine, a 3400, the leak was around the drain AND on the rear side of the garden tub and shower surround. Two different dealers worked on the drain. The first just put more caulk around it and it still leaked, the second said there was too much caulk so they removed the drain and found NO washers so replaced the entire drain, Voila! that worked, however I still had water in the basement. I caulked the bottom edge of the shower surround in the back rear corner and that helped, but still had a small leak in basement. I removed the shroud from around the water convenience center and found a finger tight water connection, after tightening NO MORE LEAKS. So that was three different leaks I had. Since fixing I have been completely dry. I would have the dealer check all water lines and fittings for tightness and as stated earlier, get it on record on what was done. One never knows when they will need some documentation later on.

I had a leak problem on the front side of the shower pan at the very bottom. What I discovered was that one of the small neopreme washers under the screw heads that holds down the door threshold was over tightened and was causing water to get under the shower pan and leak out the front.
The fix was to remove the screw, shoot a little silicone in the screw hole and put the screw and washer back in. The Washer sort of went back to it's original shape. Check those screws and washers. JB
