National Park Tour - Montana Owners Club

We are starting our National Park Tour of Utah and Wyoming. We left San Antonio in late August and will head out from Heber, Utah to Yellowstone and Grand Teton next week. The plan is to be in Albuquerque for the Balloon Festival in October. So, far it has been a great trip!

I don't know if this is really related to this post but If you are disabled you can get a lifetime pass to all the national parks for free. I found this out when I was entering Glacier National Park in Montana and they saw my place card hanging from my mirror. She ask me if that belonged to me and I said yes. That is when I got my Golden Passport. She told me it was good anywhere in America. It would have cost me $30. for a summer pass. So this is a great deal for those of us who have a disability. Kathi

Even if you're not disabled, you can get the Golden-Age Passport at age 62.

There is a great RV park in between Livingston, MT and Yellowstone Park. It is called River's Edge. Beautiful, large spots right on the river. That's our backyard. You will love Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park; so much to see and do. Try and do Glacier if you have a chance. It's well worth the Xtra miles. That's Kathi and Paul's neck of the woods!

I'm with Steve on Glacier, in fact I much prefer it to Yellowstone, not as crowded, it is, however a much further drive for me.

We liked both but Glacier better. Yellowstone had some pretty rude tourists in it when we were there.

If you don't qualify for any of the other "deals" on a National Park Pass you can buy an annual pass to all parks for $50. It's good for all their parks, not just the National Parks (same for the other passes). You can get it when you first go into a park, right at the gate. We have saved a lot of money using this annual pass.

Enjoy the parks. I see you mentioned Utah, also. Which parks are you going to? Zion, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands are the ones we've been to. All are gorgeous. Zion is jaw dropping, in my opinion.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

We have planned on Bryce, Zion, Arches and Canyonland in Utah. We will squeeze in the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! I know we will enjoy it all--even if we have not planned well.

By the way, if you are in the Salt Lake City area or Heber City, Utah--I recommend the Scenic Byway on Utah 150. Do it without your Monty. Lots of great views and lakes. We have a travel log on Good Sams--to see it--log into Good Sams and visit the Millington site.

Did you manage to visit all the places you wanted? Hope you had a good trip. We stopped at Bryce Canyon on our way home. It was our first visit and it was awesome! We will definitely go back for another visit.

Last week (Oct 4) we completed our 7 National Park adventure. Each park is unique. Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Bryce, Zion, North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arches, and Canyonland--even thru in Monument Valley and Chaco Canyon! We are going to return to a few in the future. We are trying to get to the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque now--staying in Santa Fe--but the rain and wind are not cooperating.

If anyone wants a small Texas town experience in late October--stop by Nixon, Texas for their 100 year celebration--check out the Nixon, Texas website for events over the 10 days. I will be at my hometown for the celebration. By the way, my cousin, Donnie Chessher is the mayor.

When in Monument Valley did you take one of the tours? We usually don't do the tour things but this one is a must! You get taken back into places that are absolutely astounding and you get a great narration along with the ride. We saw some beautiful places and learned all sorts of information about Native American life.

Ed is still beating himself up for not doing that when we were there. We've seen it on TV since and now he wishes he hadn't been so cheap! We'll do it for sure next time. At the rate my next time list is growing I have to live to be at least 90!

Yes, in Monument Valley we took the tour offerred by Gouldings. Since we were in their RV park, we were picked up by their Navajo driver who gave us a great description of everything in the Valley. We went down some "one-way" roads the wrong way and saw alot of things that I would have missed if I tried it on my own. So--my advice--take the 4 hour tour--it is really worthwhile. One suggestion--my wife wears contact lens--don't wear contacts--the dust will get you!!

When we return, I want to take a longer tour into other areas in the Valley.
