Beware - fold up bikes
The DW and I purchased fold up bikes from CW several months ago. She rides hers a lot and loves it. I don't really ride mine much but what I like is they store easy for travel and set up easy. The other day I got on mine and got about 30 feet down the road when the handle bars went one way and the front wheel went the other way. Almost did a header but caught myself. I stopped and really tightened down the front fork latch. I pulled, pushed, and twisted before taking off again and the assembly was solid. Took off and wham! Stupid thing did the same thing. Both times if I had been going more than 4 or 5mph it would have been injury time. Walked it back to campsite and drilled two 1/4" holes through fork/handle bar assembly and drove self taping bolts in. Just beware of these newer fold ups if you are riding them very fast.

I don't have a fold up bike, but I doubt if I would go very fast, unless I found a big hill to go down

Thanks for the warning, that kind of answers our question of do we want to change to them from our standard bikes.

We gave our bikes to goodwill just before Christmas. Neither of us feel confident riding at our age.

Gail and I purchased a pair of those from CW about 8 years or so ago. Keep them stored in the front bulkhead compartment. So far, they have worked flawlessly. But, EVERY time I'm on one, I think of the very same thing. Especially, with my overweight chunky butt on it!! I, like most of you, am lucky if I get it over 5 mph.

We've been riding ours for 5 years and have had no problems, other than getting the gears and brakes adjusted. Keep them in the basement of the Big Sky, ready to roll when we have the will to wheel!

My MIL has a couple of pins in her arm thanks to her collapsible bike. This happened many years ago but it sounds like they still aren't fool proof.
