Across the great USA

We just completed our 2750 mile journey across the USA from PA to WA in 7days. We will be spending a few months at my daughters in Vancouver, WA to welcome in a new grandson next month.

This is the 10th time I've motored across the country in the past 26 years, and if you have never done it ,you should! A great way to see what each state has in wait for you. This trip took us from PA thru WV,OH,IN,IL,IA,NE,WY,UT,ID,OR, and finally to WA. The truck and Monty performed flawlessly, and am so grateful that the trip went so well.

Glad you and Judi made the trip safely! Enjoy the visit with your daughter and family. Wish we were going somewhere warm for the winter. Maybe in a couple of years.

That sounds like a little less than 400 miles per day average. That's the way I like to travel. Glad everything went well with your rig combination! Congratulations!

How fun going to see your new grandson and then having your own place to spend the night!

About your trip, there have been many posts with questions about mileage and where to stay. How and where were your overnights, truck stops, campgrounds, Wally World? Did you track your fuel mileage, I'm guessing your '08 F-450 has the 6.4L and the monster tow rating which would have NO problem with your Monty?

In the many times we've been cross country, we've never towed the rig. We're chomping at the bit. In fact, next March we're driving cross country from So. Cal. to Florida but since we're on a time crunch and hate to fly, we'll race across and back in four days each way (I've done this a few times), but we won't be able to tow the Monty going that far per day cuz my body can't take it (and probably the trailer either). We'll either motel it or to save even more money use the truck bed tent/platform and sleeping bags for the overnights at a campground (with showers and hookups for water and electric, if necessary).

But I love reading how others do their trips and learning so much.

Glad you are enjoying yourselves. It is a great way to see this wonderful land.

Since the last week of April, we spent 81 days on the road and up the "left" coast, then back to Texas. Stayed there 6 weeks and headed to New England. We are now on our way home, but we have several 300 miler's schedule for the winter months. Don't want to get to far way from home in the Winter.

I think we have discovered that you cannot see it all. I know I don't have the life span left, but we are thinking of going to one State and spending a month in that State just touring around. Even then we do not think we could see it all. Staying in the contiguous 48, it would take 48 months + travel. Quite an ambition, but we'll see what we can see before we have to hang it up. Seems like there is always something that interferes with travel.

I hope you have a very safe return trip.

Glad the trip was a success, Mary and I take that trip from Ohio to Seattle every other year to see our son. This summer will make our 8th trip and we can not wait. You are right the crossing is glorious.

Sounds like you had a very enjoyable trip... but I must confess the thought of almost 400 miles per day, on average, for seven consecutive days really tires me out, just thinking about it!

As you said, there's a lot to see out there. One thing we've found is the diversity just within a state. I guess that's why I try to plan a different route through each state with each successive trip.

I'm glad to hear you had a good trip. Keep on enjoyin'.
