Roof Vents
This is my first winterization. I have a cover for my AC unit but wondering if you have ever had trouble with roof vents leaking because of snow lying on the roof for extended periods of time???

Ours sits outside all winter with no covers at all, A/C or otherwise. Never had a problem with roof leaks whatsoever. There is no difference than rain hitting the roof and snow laying it on it. Just my opinion and as such contains no warranties, guarantees or the like.

I have always wondered about possible water-damming problems through the roof vents when they are snow covered.
Last year, we had about 2 feet of snow on ours for a week, and I was worried about that. The rig was not in use, and I was not heating it at the time. I just hoped for the best, and did not have any problems or evidence of leaking.
I wonder if there might be a greater chance of problems when the trailer is being heated. This is just a guess on my part, but it seems to me that if there is some heat coming out of the vents, that it "could" make a melted pocket where water could pool up and flow back through the vents, given the right conditions, such as an extremely rapid thaw. Again, this is all conjecture on my part, and there are several hardcore members that do "severe winter" full-timing in their rigs that would have real world experience and advice on the matter.
I still worry about it though.

The problem that can occur is when the vent cover is old and brittle. I had this happen on our first rv as the hail cracked and made a hole in the lid. I was lucky in that the area was over the bath/shower so I had no water damage. I now put hoods over all my vents.

That is why I have always had airmaxs on all my RVs. Then dont worry. I dont have anything to do with them just think they are a good product. I also think if I had it to do over I would get the tinted ones. JMO.

First add on I did was MaxAir's have left the vents open since then - rain, snow, towing, and sitting still. Never have had a leak of any kind.

They sit at dealers and factories without covers. Most factories in Northern Indiana. So why cover anyother time? The sun does deteriate plastic so just do appropriate maintenance.

We don't have covers on ours (yet). The only thing that scares me is hail.

I wonder about how well the attic vents work to keep water out when covered with snow.
