Coaxial Cable question.

I pulled my living room T.V. out of the cabinet today to mess with the speaker wiring and noticed there is a wall plate with two cable connections on it. There is actually a short (appx 6")piece of coax cable attached to both connections. They form a loop kind of like a jumper, but I'm not sure what the purpose is? Does that make sense? Can anyone tell me what this cable is for? I can post a picture if that will help.

If you were using Satellite you would remove that jumper and put your satellite receiver there. Now the question I can not answer is which end goes to the satellite dish and which end goes to the television circuitry.
Good luck.
Cheers,

Ah....thank you John. I will remember that if I ever hook up a Dish. Guess I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right when the time comes.

John, I can not remember which is which, but its easy to figure out. Hook up the receiver output (To TV) to one side (top connection), turn on the TV and receiver (make sure the Antenna Amp is off,and you are on the right channel 3 or 4)) and see if you get the blue screen from the receiver. If not, hook up the receiver output to the other side (bottom connection) and try again.

I think this is still reasonably accurate. It doesn't show the basement connection incorporated after Jan 07, but it's close.

You guys are so awesome! Brad, where did you find that diagram. Is that in the pages of owners manuals that I have?

I wish it was in the manual. I got this from Charlie on the MOC a year ago when I posted a similar question

One exception to that picture Druryg. If you are using the newer Dish DVR 722 or other newer Dish receivers, you feed the sat sig into the DVR(Dish) and the output to the jumper jack going to the bedroom. Then you can watch different channels on different Tv's. I do ig all the time.

Edited: There are posted pictures on the "Let Us Entertain You" thread on different systems.

Wow, more info than I ever imagined! Thanks so much guys for sharing. I'm not letting my DW see this thread just yet. She has been bugging me to change out our cable T.V. for Direct TV for over a year and this will just get her worked up again. Whenever that happens I always end up getting out my checkbook...

AZ,
Direct TV and DISH TV have very different output capabilites. The newer Dish receiver will provide a signal to two TV's with one receiver.

Direct will need two receivers, one for each TV unless you want to watch the same channel on both TV's.
