Storage charging

Hi, for storage, can I plug in shore power with a 50 amp adapter and a separate battery tender with the battery disconnect on?

If you have power, just plug the rig into the power source and leave the battery connected. The onboard converter will do just fine to maintain the battery. If the battery is not a maintenance free type, then you will need to occasionally check on it's water level. Make sure the battery disconnect is switched so the key can not be pulled out. ON is usually connected and OFF would be disconnected. If you are not plugged into power, your inside lights will be working if the switch is in the proper position. We are full time, and unless we are traveling, our batteries are always connected, no different than if you are connected in storage.

You can, but don't.

For storage
Don't plug in the shore line, only disconnect at the negative side of the battery (add a disconnect, the provided one doesn't 100% disconnect).

Storing with a fully powered coach will result in component failure or fire (usually via rodents) or both.

What I’m trying to do is power the electric rodent-vermin protectors. Had them years ago and they work great but I need outlet power for those. Also want the battery tended. Would appreciate any ideas.

If your rig is powered up with the shore cable, your protectors will also work. We use them and haven't had a rodent invasion since. Make sure your water heater and other appliances are turned off so you don't overload that 15 amp circuit.

Good. Do you run a separate battery tender with that?

It really helps if you tell us the Year and model of your Montana. But in this case, if your RV is newer than 2010 or so, you have a "smart" charger converter installed. It will do a better job than a battery minder. So no, you don't need, or want, a separate battery minder.

Use your 50 reducer plug, turn of heavy use 120V appliance as Bob suggested, leave the converter on, do not disconnect the batteries, and use your rodent protectors. You will be fine.

I leave my camper plugged in all the time. Your inverter will take care of your camper and battery. You probably don’t unplug the electronics in your house.

What I’m trying to do is power the electric rodent-vermin protectors.
I tried those. I put one in my silverware drawer on the silverware guess what a mouse did on my silverware, you guessed right.

We got three of these some years ago, and haven't had any mice issues since. Maybe we are just lucky, but prior to getting them, we had several mice intrusions that drove us a bit crazy. Before getting them, I was one of the sceptics, but, for the small price, it was worth trying. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ultrasoni...erId=101238674

This is what we have used now for three years and have had no intrusions.

Great information all. I had an "under the hood" type in my last smaller camper and will now get some for our Montana. Wondering how many are needed and what locations do you plug them in (main floor & basement)? Thanks

As you can see i have a front LR. I put one by the TV, one mid ship in the kitchen, and one in the rear BR.
During the summer storage season for us (we are snow birds) I move the one from the kitchen to the basement passthrough.

Thanks for the great advice!
Those three plugs on the back wall are contracted to the refrigerator! I have the breaker shut off so it wouldn’t blow the storage outlet breaker. Turned in on for a second and they worked! Never would have guessed in a million years something so far a part would be on the same circuit.
Thanks again for the help
