Unhappy Leaking Gray Water Tank ?

This week while set up in a campground we noticed water dripping out of the bottom of our 3400RL right under the driver side storage compartment. A check of the plumbing didn't reveal any leaks, however opening the the gray tank dump valve stopped the leak. Has anyone else encountered this and what is the probable cause and how big a job is it to fix?

You may have a crack in the tank. When you opened the valve all of the water drained so there was nothing left to leak. Suggest you drop the belly and look at the tank. I don't have any idea on how much of a job it is to replace the tank. You may be able to plastic weld it if it is cracked but unless anyone else has a suggestion on this forum it may be worth a call to a RV service center. You don't want leaking tanks in a camp ground.

Keystone often uses a two piece tank which is susceptible to breaking as they do not mount them as to the manufacturers recommendation. Pull down the coroplast, fill the tank, and see what happens. It could be leaking from a number of places.

Terry-- I just had to have one of our gray tanks replaced while down in AZ. I called in a mobile service tech to replace ours because it is not an easy job. The tank normally springs a leak on the top where the top and the bottom of the tank is connected. If it is over 5-6 years old and it is overfilled or filled to near the top or not emptied before traveling, they have a tendency to crack or split on the weld between the top and bottom sections. They are not like a Class A tank that is one solid piece. I think your 3400RL is a 2008 model and it is prime for these problems. The reason it stopped leaking into the belly when you dump the tank is because the crack or separation is near the top and will not leak if the water level gets below it. You can live with this IF you do not fill the tank full and empty it every 2-3 days. My suggestion is to either take your unit into a dealer to do the work or contact a mobile rv service tech and have them change it out. Keystone is now using a one piece gray and black tank but unfortunately are not interchangeable with the older two piece tanks. By the way, the cost of the new tank plus installation was nearly $900 but that included shipping from Goshen to Arizona. Good luck and hope you get your problem solved.
