Independence Day
Well, it's 12:12 am here in Georgia 07/04/07.
Happy 4th of July to whoever is out there!
We don't have to work tomorrow and since
I've got my new verizon aircard hooked up to the laptop,
I'm out here in the Monty on this computer!
And since I'm not driving, I'm drinking.
Dano is watching a movie (Independence Day)LOL.
This is great!
Does it get any better than this?
I want to thank everyone who has helped to make this freedom we enjoy every day a reality!
Our big official celebration here in Franklin is on Saturday.
Enjoy and be safe!
Lisa and Dan

When I was a very young child our family as well as most of the families we knew went to church on Independence day morning. My Grand parents as well as most of that generation in my family were immigrants. The church we went to was one made up almost entirely of immigrants. They gave thanks for being in such a great country. It was only when I started school that I learned that the 4th of July was not a religious holiday. The day started with Mass, then family gatherings, music and always the national anthem and America the beautiful (My Grandfather loved that song) both rendered in Italian of course, accompanied by the mandolin, actually several, and fireworks..lots of fireworks. Oh..our church, St Vitis 99% Italian parish. sang America the beautiful at the High mass every Sunday..I thought it was a religious hymn.

Great story. I'm not sure America the Beautiful isn't a religious hymn - sure seems that way to me. When I was a child our church sang it also. Almost all of my forefathers fought in the Revolutionary War. Then they continued to help create this great land homesteading from MA to the south and then to KS and MO. Many donated land and established churches and schools along the way. Most were farmers, some were ministers, some were teachers, none very wealthy but rich in the values that great men have. Men, and their women, like this paved the way for all of us to enjoy a great, great country.
Happy 4th to everyone.
Happy trails..............................
