I also agree with Pete. Nothing but American branded cars or trucks for me.

Yes, the Dodge pickup is completely assembled in Mexico The Ford SD is assembled at the Kentucky Ford plant using a lot of components made in Mexico. Toyota Camrys are US built with good old USA workers. Well done Toyota. Honda has big factories in Canada using good old Canadian workers. The US and Canadian auto workers make a living wage. The Mexican Auto worker makes less money than a Mexican fruit picker working in California on a legal permit. Not a living wage. I will buy a Toyota or a Honda before I buy a Dodge.

I might add that there is a Huge Honda plant in Ohio.Made by US workers, Paid in US $, spent in the USA. WT there you go confusing the issue with facts..It is indeed a sad state of affairs..Check the pretty OEM rims on your Montana..made in China.Don't buy foreign.. park the Montana.check the Dometic fridge..made in Sweden.. Drink warm beer. TV/DVD.you didn't watch the SB on that Foreign stuff did you??? If we are going to say..don't buy foreign we need to understand what that means. It is way to late and it will get worse and ..it is not and was never the consumers fault..no one ever consulted this consumer on anything.

Dodge manufactures pickups in their St. Louis plant also. Don't think they have many Mexicans working there.

My F350 was made in Kentucky. Yes, Toyotas are made in the USA by Americans but the profit goes to Japan and they make them here for their convenience not ours. You can go to Foreign countries and you won't see American compact cars, not because they are poor quality but 1. National Pride, 2. import Tax. I'll support American products over any foreign product even if it costs me more. I dedicated my life in the Defense of this country and I will support her until I stop breathing........Pete

Being a retired UAW worker, edit: I have deleted my answer since this is turning into another gripe session! This, religion and politics would be better off not on the forum! This is the best way for me to keep my mouth shut!

I would like to see all foreign made products disappear in the AM..In that unlikely event we offer the above link to some factual information. it is good to have the facts.

As mentioned by many, I'm a die hard supporter of the good ol USA...even shed some blood for Her in an earlier life. However, I cannot see me EVER buying an American car...as a poster on another thread so articulately put it, 'they are pieces of junk.' Every year Honda/Toyota improve the Accord/Camry to the point they are two of the best all around vehicles ever made. The Accord came into being in the mid 70s and the Camry in the mid 80s. While Honda/Toyota are improving the same vehicle, Chrysler/Ford/GM make a new vehicle, keep it for a couple of years, scrap it, then start over with a new model. I've never heard of half their vehicles. I refuse to spend my hard earned bucks on a lousy vehicle...I don't care where it's made. The American auto makers have made great progress over the past decade...but it's too late for me, we've owned nothing but multiple Accords and Acuras for the last 25 years and I can't see that changing.
When Honda/Toyota come out with a full sized heavy duty drw diesel...it will really get interesting.

I asked this question on a different thread and received no reply. Does anyone know of, or heard of, the foreign truck makers entering the 3/4 and 1 ton areas, especially diesel trucks used to tow large 5ers?

Was wondering about the turbos. Dose each one feed a bank or dose one turbo feed the next one which would really boost up the pressure?
|
The small turbo with variable vane geometry gets the truck off the line and up to mid-range rpm. Then the large turbo with fixed vanes kicks in and both turbos work together until high rpm. At high rpm the small turbo drops out and the big one continues. They say this gives the engine a very consistent pulling power through the whole rpm range and also makes it very strong off the line.

I read that when the two turbos work together it can boost up to 42 psi.

It was speculated that MPG was not going to be real impressive on the 6.4's..Still to early to tell but that report..9.5mpg...was not encouraging.

That caught my eye, too. And mpg will be a factor in my purchase decision this summer. A small difference won't matter. But 9.4 would probably turn me away if that's the mileage it will get solo.
On edit, that 9.4 was the overall mileage for a day in the mud, a foot of mud deep, crawling up 45 degree hills after doing the mud, etc., etc. The 9.4 is not likely what one would expect from driving around town and/or on the highway.

Interesting item I saw on Discovery channel a few weeks back -- All Honda Accords are made here in the states and exported (yes exported) to Japan. None are made in Japan anylonger; Toyota has the same thing (or so it stated) with their Camry. I need to go visit our local dealer and see the label and see what percentage is US vs. imported parts though.

I would like to clarify that the Ram 1500 IS made in the USA, in Michigan as a matter of fact. When you go to the 2500 and 3500, those are made in Mexico. I know this due to owning both a 1500 and 2500, and I'm also from the Motor City.
When I worked for GM (Pontiac Motors) in the 70's/80's, thats when the big three started to REALLY go downhill. I really got tired of them pushing "made in America". All of the parts were coming from other countries. I said they should be saying "ASSEMBLED in America".
