snowing and snowing in Colorado

We have blizzard warnings now! Warnings? We are having a blizzard right now!
All the major highways in and out of Colorado are shut down. The airport is shut down. Denver and surounding areas, are pretty much shut down.

Saw this on the evening news a bit ago.

You guys out there be wise, stay home, don't run a generator in your house, and don't shovel all that nasty stuff at one time!

Be careful!

And they said Montana had a lot of snow. Since Paul has been sick, I have had to pick up all the slack. Last time it snowed (2 weeks ago) I learned how to use our Husqvarna snowblower. That was a blast once I learned what the heck I was doing. It does everything. Everyone asks me why I didn't just get a plow for the front of the lawnmower. Heck this is much more fun. I can hardly wait till it snows again so I can do it again. My son in law said it is the BOMB!!! Whatever that means! Hope Colorado starts to clear up.

Thanks Carol.
We are lucky, Our very nice neighbor clears our driveways with a plow.

They are saying this one may be one of the worse 5 blizzards. They are comparing it to the blizzard of 2003 and the 1982 Christmas blizzard. Someone died about a mile from where we live in that one. That snow was coming down so fast it covered this man's car after he ran off road or was stuck. Poor guy, no one knew he was there. We also had that deep April spring blizzard in 2004 or 05. Can't remember.

Kathi! I like your little smilie clearing snow.

Ditto, stay safe up there. We had 6 inches here at our house - they say more but who knows. Albq airport was closed yesterday. We are preparing for a second wave due in on Saturday - you guys need a break up there.

Stay warm.

Yep - 3rd time out with the snow blower - and I'm loosing ground.

Talked to our Dealer today and our Monty may have left this week in Transport. We both laughed and wondered which CLOSED highway it would be coming in on!

Brad, Dusty, and the rest of you guys in the blizzard, sorry your having suh poor weather. As everynoe else has said, be carefull and stay warm.

We got another dusting last night, and the wind has made some good sized drifts, but most of it will be gone by tomorrow night.

Brad, when you get wore out from the snowblower action, you can always sit in the chair in your picture, and ring the bell for refreshments, . Man, it sure looks cold there.

Maybe they will have to bring your Monty in by chopper, wouldn't that be a sight??

Dustytuu,

I was there in the '82 Blizzard !

I was working at Stapleton Airport & living in Aurora. It was crazy
how people still wanted to rent cars! I was at the airport the whole time it was shut down.

Quite an experience as I recall.
That was my last winter in Colorado.

It did manage to snow for me one more time in late September the next year
right before I headed for Florida! Everyone blamed that one on me!

Y'all stay safe & warm inside. There's NO reason worth going out in that.

We are happy today just to be above freezing! We had quite a cold spell for us and the green grass was white with frost. Our heat pump does not work well in those temps. We are used to rain, not this cold stuff.

That is some kind of camping rig!

We are digging out. Had to dig out so the dogs could go potty.
Will send pictures later.
We live near Parker and the measurement is 25.9 inches. We have some 6 feet drifts. Still snowing now! Suppose to snow until this afternoon.
We don't go anywhere in weather like this! You would be surprised at the people that tried yesterday. National Guard had to rescue many of them stuck in their cars on Boulder turnpike, 1-70 and 1-25. And some streets in the city too. Some of them were trying to Christmas shop! Can you believe! I guess some were trying to get to work too.
Some were out to see if they could!

Dusty,

We have between 30 - 36" but it's really hard to say with all the blowing and drifiting. We have been shoveling snow the past two days, non-stop. We lost internet too since we have wireless and the wind and snow interfers with the tower providing the service.

Bob,

We don't really see that much snow in the Denver area, in fact we have more sun days a year than any city except Phoenix. The problem is these blizzards that hit every 3-6 years make up for it. Usually the snow stays up in the mountains, where it belongs, and then it melts and provides us (and CA) water all summer.

Finally got dug out - but no real purpose. Absolutely nothing is open out there, except for Safeway and it's closing at 4:00.

This sure beats brown grass for Christmas!!

re: Brad's first picture

I grew up in Colorado and lived there for 30 years, but also lived in Lake Tahoe for 12 years where they had real snow. One snow storm in Tahoe had 11 feet in 3 days....it all melted in 7 days, but still was enough to make you panic when you can't keep up and can't see out the windows.

Looking at your pictures, you should be glad that the Monty's front door opens to the inside... I lived in a rental house in Tahoe that had the door open to the outside....dumb I know, but didn't dawn on me until I had to go out the garage door...I wonder what else there could be in a trailer that maybe I haven't thought about.

65 here in Texas.

Hope it melts quickly for all in Colorado.

Merry Christmas to all!!!

Colorado has more sunshine than Florida. Believe it or not.

We are digging our here. We have over 30 inches here as final count. Hard to measure with the drifts. We live in Elbert County so are about 12 miles from Parker.
