Cheap tire pressure monitor
OK, this one, I saw in an auto parts store, it screwed onto the tire stem, and had a 'flag', or Red button when the tire pressure dropped from the calibrated setting. The individual stem extension has different tire pressures, the ones I saw were for cars, I will try Chux Trux here in town to see if they have the 80# ones.
Might be neat just to walk by the tire and look for a Green or Red indicator. Reasonable price as well.
I'll let you all know.

I have seen these at auto parts stores but they were only good for the lower pressures of passenger cars. Now that I see they are also available for much higher pressures I will be checking them out again.

It's hard to keep up with the advances in products. I know by the time we buy a computer and use it for a year, they have a much more advanced model.
I saw these indicators for tire pressure in CW, but like you said, they were narrow in scope.

The only problem I can see is the tire pressure should be checked cold and will rise once on the road and the tires get hot. But they might be good for checking leaks if the pressure should bleed off.

I checked into and bought these after seeing this post and put them on the night before our last weekend trip. When setting up I noticed the red indicator on one of the tires. Wouldn't have known it was low to look at it but but it was off by 20lbs. We were able to keep the preasure up by filling it prior to going home and checking it on the way. Ozz thanks for posting this idea. Two things I found as a result of this. Good Sams ERS will change flats for you in your own driveway and the Hercules trailer tire (by Cooper) seems a good match and alternative to what came with the trailer.

We like the Doran tire pressure monitors. They work great for us. Have them on all 4 trailer tires and on all of the truck tires. You can check the tire pressure from inside the truck. I bought those because I had trouble getting Don to stop often to check the tires. He will check everything else. I check these as we are going down the road. We have never had a problem getting a signal from any of the trailer tires. Works great!!

Thanks for the post on these monitors. They do seem like a good economical alternative to some of the other tire pressure monitors out there. Since having 3 tread separations within 2 months of each other a year ago, I have been extremely "anal" when it comes to tire pressures on the rig. I just ordered a set of 5 and am sure they will put my mind (and tire gage) at ease. Thanks again.

I just bought 5 of the 80 pound caps here in town for $24.10 out the door ($4.82 each). They are out of the 65 and 75 pounders.

These moniters have a rubber seal on them, make sure they are nice and tight or they will leak. Just my experience with them.. Jack

After four blowouts on four different vehicles (one on the Montana) in the space of eighteen months, I guess I am a bit paranoid. I sprung for the Doran system, and currently only have sensors on the trailer. It is sooo reassuring to be able to monitor things on the fly. When we had the blowout on the trailer, we didn't even know it till someone flagged us down. Thinking back, I remember that this was the tire that had the bad valve stem in it, and it had lost down to 35lbs. Probably, it was damaged from that, and then a year later, blew out.
We're heading out west in January, so I'll feel a lot more confident this trip with the Doran system and new Michelin Rib tires on the Montana.
