Just info, I looked at the web site for low clearence for Mich. They only listed 2. I know of several more not listed so don't let their list be your Bible. A Monty owner found this out in Mackinaw City last summer when he tried to go under a 10-6 overpass. I'm sure you get the picture, not very pretty. I saw the unit later in Gaylord being repaired

When you measure that height make sure that not only is the camper level but that the ground it sits on is level. Example out driveway is not level. We had to also put a board on the driveway and level that board so we could get a
accurate height measurement which was 13.3 on the 3400.We do note that the 2nd A/c that are not low profile are higher but would not think that it was 5 inches higher,,But, like you said..it measures what it measures..

I don't have problems with overpasses..................but you are more apt to cause damage to your montana with branches that hang too low as I did this weekend asI got lucky and only twisted the round vents ..so I got on the roof and twisted em back, scraped the pexiglass too...no real damage but PAY ATTENTION [ME ]

Genecurp, we recently, in the past month, went through a factory tour. The question was asked about the height. The 2007 models are listed at 12'9". We were told that's the max with second AC installed. If you have just one AC unit it is not as tall because of the location of the second AC on the highest part of the coach. The first AC is on a lower section, in the rear of the coach. I believe the 2006 are the same story.

You can measure yours. Just tie a line on a board, then lay the board level across the highest point and drop a line to the ground with someone to pull the line tight and mark it. Then go back down on the ground and measure the line from board to mark. Our 2003 model is listed in the brochure at 12' 8". Our measurement was 12' 7" actual. Our AC is not in the back but in a higher location and it is not the low profile AC.

I measured mine hitched to the TV in my driveway. Everything is pretty much level. I came up with 13'8". I was going to remeasure today but it's raining. That's the first time I've heard the overall heighth is with the 2nd a/c unit, but never been to the factory and only had the Monty less than 2 years so I really don't know. I have to believe they know their product. The other factor is I have a Trailair pinbox. Maybe that adds a few inches to the overall equation also. I didn't think about that. I just do not want to be severly limited to travel places. I may be making too much of this, but it only takes one mistake. I'm still going to remeasure, once with the TV and once w/o and see if there is a difference.

I agree with MPL897, if you are careful planning your trip you should be OK. But you can’t trust the person at the camp ground front desk. On our last trip we were told their camp ground would handle any size rig. Once we went though the gate, (Point of no return) we drove through a canopy of trees & bushes no higher than 10’. Needless to say I had extensive repairs to the roof EPDM & plumbing stacks when I got home not to mention all the permanent scratches.

I thought I came up with a great idea to solve this problem but Sherry refuses to cooperate. My plan was for her to ride our motorcycle ahead of the camper with a 14’ stick attached like the oversized loads you see on the highway. Her response was no response.

Hey that seemed like a fair idea - I can't understand the "no response" thing. (LOL)
I know there are others out there taller than me. We saw a huge motorhome at one campground with satellites all over the top and I know he had to be WELL over 14'. It almost looked like there was a second floor to the motorhome.
To change the subject for just a minute - is that a pole shed for your Monty or all aluminum.
What are the dimensions? Can you give me just a ballpark figure what that size would run. I have to get something for mine. I bought the 40' CW cover for mine, but what a pain in the butt to take on and off and it weighs a ton. I didn't do anything for my last TT and 9 years in the Florida sun really killed the exterior. Would appreciate any info. Thanks.

Rich's and Curt's numbers are interesting. I'll have to be sure to measure ours before we take it on a road trip. In the past we've used 13' as our limit for overpasses, since ours measures 12'7" but the new one will likely be taller.

Good point on the tree branches, too. We have one of those finguards on our AC to help protect the AC fins from branches. It won't stop little ones but would help with big ones. It won't help moving forward but will when backing into a site. I got it at either CW or an RV dealer. I'm moving it from this Montana to the new one.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

cs413, the VP port you see in the picture is on a rental site at The Great Outdoors Resort. It’s made of steel and aluminum and I think one of the owners told me they run about 15K installed. It is 20’ wide, 15’ high inside and 44’ long.
A buddy of mine in Pa. purchased the materials from a metal building company a few years back. It was all aluminum, 12’ wide, 14’ high and 36’ long. He paid 3K for the materials not including the footing or his labor.

ask her to "kick the tires" for a while out side the office and watch other big rigs go thru first, and see if THEY hit

Steve..The 13.3 measurement was taken from the top of our Maxi vent cover over the bathroom vent on the 3400 as that is the very highest point. We have the 2nd A/C but it was not factory installed and it is the low profile. The maxi vent cover is near the same height as the 2nd A/C. I would do a close check of that 12.9 number when you get the camper.

Thanks, Rich. I will do so. I like to know our actual numbers before that low bridge comes into sight.

Thanks streigle,
I measured my 2006 from the front AC and it came it at 12'9". I am very glad to have it confirmed that the factory intends that to be the height with both A/cs.

That maxi vent cover does not look like it is that much higher,,12.9 vs 13.3. It must be a optical illusion due to the slope of the roof.

Thanks, Gene. And, Rich, your maxi vent comment reminded me I should wait until I've installed the vent covers before measuring.

Can someone tell me how many vent openings there are on a 3400, in the ceiling? Include Fantastic vent also. I'm moving our covers from this rig to the new one and am not sure if I need to buy another.

Thanks.

Steve,
There is 4 vents in the 3400RL

1 over bed
1 in water closet
1 at the top of the stairs next to the shower
1 in the kitchen

My 3400RL is 13'3" to the top of my FF MaxxAir vent cover in the kitchen.

The one over the bed is were the 2nd A/C would go and the one in the kitchen is were a Fantastic fan would go. Since we have the 2nd A/C and the fantastic fan we have one maxi vent and it is over the Water closet which makes it the highest point on the camper.

Steve,
I think I might still have my MaxxAir cover from the bedroom vent. It was taken off when I had the 2nd a/c installed this spring. I still have the hall, watercloset covered w/ MaxxAir vent covers as well as my FF in the kitchen.

Thanks, guys. Actually, using your numbers, the 3400 will have the same number of vents as does our 3295. And we have a FF on this one and on the new one, so that cover will work, too. Sounds like all I need to do is remove from this one and install on the new one. Sounds like a lot of fun for the end of August in Kansas City. Hot and humid. Might be a good way to sweat off a little weight.

We're having the FF put in the hall of the bath area so that vent will likely be our high point. We have the cover made for high volume fans over the FF vent. We have the second AC prep but not the second AC.

Thanks for the info.
