Dually Tires

Is there a rotation system for dually tires? Mine has about 18000 miles on them I was wondering about rotation. Thanks Jack

My owners manual shows the proper way to rotate them.

DRIVER SIDE:
frontsteer to rear inside-DRIVER side
rear outer to rear inside
rear inside to steer

same method for passenger side

On my '06 it just states moving them side to side. Front left to right and rear left to right. I would mark the duals so that when you rotate them you turn one of them 90 degrees so they are not running any flat spots together if you would happen to have any. That and both valve stems wouldn't be in the same hole when trying to check air pressure.

I figured that unless there was some type of wear problem, it just wasn't worth it to have the tires rotated. To have your six tires moved around costs between $60 & $90, two switches is more than the cost of one tire and you won't get that much more wear out of your rotated tires,

Some of the trucks I've looked at don't allow for rotating front to back--different wheels. Is this true?

Discount Tire rotated mine for $20.00. The wheels are all the same on my Dodge.

Ford's inside duals are Steel and the outside ones are aluminum. I am not sure if the fronts will fit on the outside rear's or not.

I don't think they will that's why I'm in a dither about having duals on my next truck. That and the fact that you can't run a dually through the car wash.

The new car washes are getting better around here. There are a couple I have ran the dually thru already. They don't do as good a job as the hand wash style where you spray off the vehicle. But for the once a week bath they work pretty good. My biggest problem has been the ones that won’t go back far enough to get to the back of the truck. Crew cab with long box = 23' too long.

I re read the ford manual and it states to rotate just side to side. I have not had my wheels off yet to see if they are interchangeable. But judging by Ford saying side to side only, I am guessing there must be some offset differences in the front and outside rears other than just flipped the other way around.

I never run anything through the car washes that use those brushes as (IMO) they beat the vehicle to death.I have got to many antenna's and other stuff hanging off the truck for the brush wash. There are a couple of hand wash places around here or I will do the normal wand wash.

Most of the ones around here still spray water at the vehicle. I haven't seen a brush one for a long time(Maybe 10-15 years) Still nothing beats just washing it by hand. Makes it easier to spot the rock chips and make sure they are touched up before they get out of hand.

Everybody that I talk to says that it isn't worth the money if there is no problem.

Those that have 4X4 need to keep check on your front tires. They will cup if you don't rotate them or that had been my experience with them. I rotate mine every 5000-6000 miles. I usually get 50.000 miles or better out of a set of tires. I rotate mine according to the owners manual front to back.
