Mystery Pipe Behind wall

Hi! I'm new to the forum and have really found this to be a life saver. I am hoping someone can help me out. I just bought a 2008 Keystone Montana 3400RL and is in the process of renovating it. I came across an access panel in the pantry. When I looked in there and closed the door to the bedroom it revealed two pipes back there. They appear to be broken. I have never seen pipes that looks like this and was hoping you all could tell me what it is and if I can fix it or if I need to find a plumber to fix it. TIA

Vacuum breaker for tank flush. Looks like it is under stress and needs to be adjusted a little otherwise the replacement will break also.

That is your black tank flush anti siphon valve. Mine broke exactly like that. DO NOT USE YOUR BLACK TANK FLUSH or you will flood your trailer. You need to 1) replace that clear valve with a better brass one, or 2) eliminate the valve altogether by buying fittings and connect the pipes together and throw that valve away.

Here is a long older discussion about that valve.

Many of us have spliced those tubes together and eliminated the valve. We then use an external backflow preventor before the water enters the black tank flush.

Is this something that may be an issue on newer units also? (2021 3790RD)

Thanks,
Brad

They can be an issue on most anything they are installed on. Like was mentioned earlier, a 90 degree shark bite fitting (or 2) and take it out.

Our 2019 3791RD had a black plastic one under the bathroom sink. It leaked within 3 months of getting our unit. I cut it out and used 2 shark bite elbows to put the pipe back together, then got a hose bib style backflow preventer/vacuum breaker that screws into the inlet on the black tank flush. I think I ordered on amazon for about $5 or less. If memory serves, the valve had to be installed above the height of the toilet to work properly, which is why it is under the sink, or in the wall in your case.

I would guess they are still using the same cheap problematic valves they have for years. At least a couple have posted here that theirs leaked due to bugs getting into the valve via the atmospheric vent cap, not because the valve itself failed.

I would suggest that at some point you eliminate that valve, join the pipes together, and use an external anti siphon/vacuum breaker valve. That valve is installed to meet NFPA 1192 Standard for Recreational Vehicles.

I would find the 2 pipes from below in the basement. Cut both pipes off and plumb them together with shark bite fittings to eliminate the valve. As someone else said DO NOT USE YOUR BLACK TANK FLUSH or you will flood your camper.

I would not cut and tie lines together in the basement. There needs to be a loop in the line that is higher than black tank. With out the loop black water will wont to run out the bib connection. Sure a one way bib would prevent this but I wouldn't trust it.

My 2013 had a back flow valve under the bathroom sink. It leaked, and when I took it apart, it was nothing but a little marble that would back up against the intake line and shut it off from back flowing. I just removed the marble and no more leaks.
