6.0 Powerstroke - Montana Owners Club

Have any of you guys found a oil leak on the right back side of you 6.0 powerstrokes seems to be 4x4 0r ones with straught axles. My buddy found one on his and reported it to the Ford dealer. Its seems to be a bad casting for the oil pan and leaks through one of the bolt holes. Anyhow they are installing a new engine in his truck.

I have had one injector replaced and that is it. Replacing a engine because of an oil leak sounds a little drastic to me, doesnt make much sense.

Just thought I would let you know because there are plenty of them out here. 4 of them are on the trucks of the guys I work with.

Note on the Ford.6.0 PSD. Drove by a Ford dealer and noticed many 250/350 PSd's on the lot which was very unusual around here because this is not exactly Diesel country( unless you are a camper) I checked other Ford dealers nearby on line
one had 17 psd's another 14 another 22..very unusual.Is there something we should know about FMC???

Any particular year model 6.0? Ford has made some changes since the 6.0 first came out. A friend bought an 04 almost identical to mine but 6 mos later production and his engine has different electronics, controllers, etc. His just died by the side of the road and the dealer we both bought from couldn't diagnose his until they purchased updated equipment and software. Apparently Ford had not even made them aware of the change.

So far mine is 20,000 miles of trouble free operation. I am watching for the head problems that have been reported but no oil leaks or any other problems yet.

They were all 06's that is what I thought was unusual. I wondered why there were so many 06 PSD's in an area where they don't sell all that well. Now the 150 is another story..they sell like hotcakes..When I started looking fo a F350 in Jan of 05 there was not a 350 or a diesel to be had within 50 miles of here, You had to order. We decided we did not need a diesel but still had to order to get a F-350...Might be some bargains out there..

No problem like that on mine nor on any owned by many friends with the same engines. I suppose it's possible to get a bad casting in anything though.

As for sales, well, 75% of the superdutys are sold with the 6.0 diesel and it's still a big seller, per the last set of sales numbers I saw. I see tons of the new ones on the road. Dealers in areas we have been have some but not a lot. I guess your area must be an exception.

A friend has a new 6.0L Powerstroke King Ranch and has not had any problems with his. I will admit I sure do like that saddle leather and 4 bucket seats, sure is a nice looking truck...

I like my Lariat a lot but when I see that King Ranch I have to admit I get a bit envious. But this one is only 14 1/2 months (and 44k miles) old, way too soon to trade just to get that King Ranch interior.

Is it ever too early to talk trade. As long as the DW doesn't know I'm looking it's OK. But for now I think I will wait until the new diesel rules are washed out and the big three have the bugs worked out of the new engines before I look to hard. Lots of changes in 2007, So I think my next new truck will probably be a 2008 or later.

I am with you..We did not need a diesel now and would not have went with the 6.0 in any case.We can see the need in a couple of years and hope the all the clean air rules and fuel rules do not price the motor out of sight.Since we got this 05V-10 on the X plan with a 2500.00 rebate a real goood price for our previous TV and paid cash we will be in good shape for a upgrade to diesel in maybe 08 if all goes well.

Has anyone heard anymore on Ford tring to put a diesel engine in the F-150 trucks. I think that they are to come off the assembly line in 2007.

Rich, after you tow with your new 3valve V10 you might decide to stick with it. I did the identical trip in the spring with my 05 V10 as I did last year with my 04 6.0 PSD.

This was with the same slide in camper on both trucks with lots of 6% and 8% grades. The new V10 is an amazing gas engine and matched the performance of my 04 PSD. Both these engines outperformed my 00 7.3 PSD by quite a bit in the power dept but the 7.3 was the best on fuel of all of them. The V10 is the easiest to live with and my wife loves the gas engine after 11 years of diesels. I don't think I will be able to make her go back to a diesel. Take care, Don.

Don,,It was Helen that would not have the diesel. I drive one every day and she keeps my "bus drivers clothing" seperate because of the smell.Will not even wash them with "normal clothing". I like the V-10 and will pass judgement after we pull the 3400 for awhile With the gap between gas and diesel fuel prices growing instead of leveling off having a diesel may not be cost effective any more.We were at our local camping club meeting last week and one of the members who knew that I wanted a diesel and Helen would not have it said I did the right thing as his F-250 PSD which he uses as a daily driver was costing him a fortune in Fuel. You know I really do not care if a diesel will get up a 8 % grade faster that me//all I wnat to do it get up it???

It sounds like your Helen and my Donna are pretty smart gals. Donna hates the smell of diesels and
she put up with my 95 and 2000 PSDs for 10 years. We test drove an 04 6.0 and I fell for the power and she fell for the sweet exhaust. Six months after owning it, it started breaking down, the dealer reflashed it and it stunk worse than my 7.3s ever did. We both hated the thing so much, we ordered the 05 V10 and when it came in we both fell in love with the quiet, smooth , and smell free exhaust. I might be fickle in engine choices but Donna and I have been married 35 years next month and she's still the ONE. Take care, Don.
