On the other side of this coin.... Paying for and Passing a "special test" to tow a potential large vehicle setup,DOES NOT make you a good driver either.

After over 30 years driving a semi safely(over 3 million miles) , and still currently doing it, it is a risk everyday out on the roads. Its not MY driving that scares me it is the other DISTRACTED drivers I fear!!!

FWIW , over the years I have only seen about 10 accidents involving campers of all types total, not a bad track record if you ask me.

DISTRACTED drivers! I almost got run over last week by a young woman playing with her cellphone. She came around a curve over the yellow line. I was watching her playing with her cellphone. I guess texting.

My truck decal shows front axle max 5200, rear axle max 6780, total GVWR for truck is 11500.

Interesting. We have a 2014 F350 CCSB 4x4 6.7
Front axle is listed at 5600 lb and rear is listed at 7000 lb.
Total GVWR is 11500 lb.

Do you have the solid front axle?
Wonder if the difference is tire ratings?
Wonder why both are rated 11500 GVWR with different individual ratings?
Hard to understand these manufacturers.

It's always interesting too when the rear weight is higher than you can buy tires rated to support it.

What tires are you running on it? Make/model, load range etc. Thanks.

I'd say the beefer frame, but they did that because of aluminum body.

Correct and those were OEM on my 2016 F350. Replaced at 58,000 miles before a long trip but could have had another 5000 or more safely

In this case it's the 20" aluminum wheels that limit the rear axle rating. They are limited to 3500# each hence the 7000# rating on the sticker. The stock 275/65r20 tires are rated at 3750. If you look around, it's hard to find any aftermarket wheels that exceed 3500#s. Some go as high as 3640# for the 7280 RAWR on some trucks.

Wish I could get that kind of mileage out of mine, 600 horses under the hood trying to get out, you reckon.

It is my TV and sometimes daily driver. Total miles now at 74K on the 2016 F350. About 1/2 towing.

Wow, Captnjohn, that is a lot of towing in 3 years! I thought I towed a lot at around 10K a year. Are you fulltime?
