Whisper quiet A/C mod

I was browsing through some posts and someone made a comment about the whisper quiet air conditioners not really cooling off the rig as much as older a/c units. Another said they did some mod work to the ducts. I tried searching for that mod work, but didn't have any luck. Can someone enlighten me as to what mod work can be done? Thanks!

About the only thing I know of is the return ductwork. Check to make sure it isn't constricted or collapsed. It's just thin sheet metal. I opened ours up and inserted a 1 inch diameter tube in the center to hold the sections open. Use a lightweight PVC pipe, so it doesn't restrict the air flow. Also, check to make sure that all duct connections are tight. Check the air flow from the diffusers. An earlier unit we had didn't have one duct hooked up. Oddly enough, you will usually find the best airflow to be at the furthest diffuser away from the main unit. It's the "path of least resistance" scenario. A diffuser is "resistance" and the duct is less resistant, so the air goes all the way to the end, then exits the last diffuser with more flow than the closer one.........in MOST cases. There are always exceptions. And, remember to clean the intake filters.....often. Amazing how fast they get dirty.

I also saw a post where they changed the discharge vent to a light screen to reduce any additional air flow restrictions. I have not done this yet put plan to in the future. The 1" PVC pipe in the cold air return made a huge difference.

That be me that did that Mod and YES it helps big time to shot the air STRAIGHT down instead of up at the hot ceiling, I took my vent covers off turned them upside down then cut the louvers out of the cover with a dremmel cut off wheel then cut out round pieces of larger wire mesh and glued it in there in it's place and painted the mesh white looks good works great ,,WAY better air flow.. ALSO what helps is when you look real close in the pic you can see that I got some 1-1/2 inch PVC pipe cut them into 6 inch pieces and push them up in the outlet vents one by one with connectors(about 3-5 pieces) AND the 2 air INTAKE outlets and that helps the flow as well http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=...c#.WIJ2yH3Y15s

I removed my vents and cut out every other louver, and put them back 200% better air flow and cooling...

Guess we

Ours has worked great with no modifications. Did clean out a significant amount of sawdust, but all ductwork was clear.

There are many posts on this. Clean all your ducts, Your ceiling vents are undersized reducing airflow which makes your compressors freeze, You can enlarge vents or add vents. Your basement allows tons of outside air into the furnace step area requiring you to close all your floor vents and the return air vent under the steps.

New 3950BR had much better outlet install, they still are too restrictive, but they don't extend up into the duct and need to be trimmed.

The return air still has the ducting being pushed down by the roof and insulation. I bought PVC today to fix that and ordered the new adjustable outlet vents.

When putting the PVC pipe in the vents do you have to secure it in place so that it stays in the middle of the duct or is there enough pressure from the collapsing duct work to hold it in place. This is the first mod I intend to do when I dig mine out of the mounds of snow mother nature just dumped on us.

Our unit arrived at the factory last Friday to have the frame issue and the AC units inspected and repaired. I'm not a fan of the Whisper system at all as of now.

You should have a yellow copy of paperwork that lists serial numbers and model numbers of "stuff" in your fifthwheel. Other than that, up on the rooftop...as the song says.

OK....I'll bite.....how do I remove the circular ceiling vents? They look like they pull off but I don't want to break them.

Thanks

If they are like mine, it is a full cover. Take a small screwdriver and find one of the indentions on the side and insert the screwdriver and pull the lip of the cover outward. May have to do two of them and it will pop off.

What Golfmedik said. Pop the cover off and then unscrew the rest of the housing. The only one that is different is the one in the den/middle bedroom. When you remove it, you will find that a round flexible duct is actually attached to it.

I forgot to check the return in that room. I need to see if it is blocked.

My brief experience is... covering the furnace air return AND the furnace vents helps. If you leave them uncovered... you are cooling your basement.

One item I noticed the other day is there are gaps in some of the window seals on the bottom edge....which let's in outside air.

Keystone changed to the duct link system for 2018 and newer Montanas to help avoid collapsing ducts. At 115 degrees in Mesa AZ heat with no shade except a shade tarp on the non door side and utilizing our awnings in the door side, and several fans running, we can manage to stay at 84 in the main area and 88 in the upper bedroom/front bath. Once the sun sets it will hold the 78 we set it too and and sleep comfortably. Thankfully the humidity is around 10-15 percent which also helps.
I do wonder about the Whisper AC unit as well as our previous 2013 3402RL only had 1 unit and we did very well the summer of 2017 in San Antonio TX; we did have some shade.
I was contemplating totaling removing the round AC registers in the ceiling but not sure if that would help. There are replacement registers with less louvers as well that have moveable slats that might be worth trying.

When you have the vent covers off to remove every other fin, take the screws out of the housing and remove it also. You'll find it extends an inch or more into the duct restricting the air flow. Trim it down to only the depth needed and then reinstall it and snap the cover back on.
