Been there, done that. Good warning.
Good friend cracked his AC shroud on a tree limb and, him being physically unable to climb on the roof, I said I would replace it for him. Took the screws out and started to lift the shroud and out they came. There is no safe place to go on the roof. Still do not know how I kept from getting stung. I think maybe because I just sat back and was still as there was little else I could do. He tossed up a can of wasp and hornet spray and I managed to kill most and run the rest off.
