All of the 2020 Chevy/GM diesels come with a 3:42 rear-end. The 2500's can tow 18,500 lbs. while a standard cab DRW can tow 35,500 lbs. All with the same Duramax engine, Allison 10 speed trans, and the 3:42 rear end. I love mine.

I don’t know how much difference the ten speed verses the older six speed tranny as I have not drove a 2020 truck especially while towing. The Ike Gauntlet test showed the new Ford was awesome in the test. I had a 2018 with 4.10’s and currently have a 2019 with the 3.55 gears. I will say the big difference in my two DRW trucks was With the 4.10’s you got into sixth gear and it stayed there. If it shifted down it was probably because of sharp corners and I feel that the exhaust brake worked better. My 2019 with the 3.55 gears does a lot of shifting up and down while towing especially in the mountains. Biggest difference is not on the freeways but the two lane mountain passes. Like I related to earlier the tranny is constantly shifting which actually heats up the transmission oil resulting in higher temperatures. I would probably go back to the 4.10’s if I were to get a new truck. I really wish Ford would have ordered a 3.91 option in the old six speed trucks. Last but not least yes my RPM was higher with the 4.10 gears, about the same as my old 7.3 four speed truck due to the fact the six speed only has one overdrive gear.

Happy and safe roads to you.

Tom Marty

We've got 4:10 in our 2018 F350. I was a bit concerned with mileage but it turns out they were unfounded. Getting 10+ under load and 14-16 unloaded. Pulls the grades with ease. Bought the truck used but wouldn't hesitate to replicate the setup if I were buying new.
