New owner

Hello everyone,
We just upgraded from a Cougar pull trailer to a 2020 Montana High Country 334BH!
My question is the new rig is gen prep ready. Would it be beneficial to get the Onan 5.5 and install myself? The other option is we have a Champion 3500 inverter already should I go with a parallel kit and another 3500? Also worried about extra weight of the Onan.

Thanks

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new purchase! I think it would come prepped for a gen but that might be a dealer question.

You must be planning on doing some boon-docking? Just one of your Champion inverters should easily run one AC along with your other accessories but it really depends on how/where you plan to use your rig and how much you want to carry.

Thanks jsb 5717,
It did come prepped for gen, but a bit pricey so we opted to do the gen install ourselves later. We’ll see how much our little gen will run for now.

Congratulations and Welcome to the MOC. Good idea to see how your current Gen works. Might be a money saver.

Congrats on your new unit. As for the generator we had it installed when it was built at the factory and also got it for a very cheap price. As previously stated see how your Champion does. It is nice to turn my built in generator on about an hour before we arrive at our destinations in really hot weather so our 3160 is cool enough to enjoy being inside. I also purchased a 2000 watt inverter generator from Costco to run the small stuff when out boondocking. It uses very little gasoline and a big built in generator running off propane really will consume your propane.
Happy roads to you.

Tom Marty
