Titling 2015 F-350 DRW

Just picked up hard tags from dealer. Got home look at registration, GVW 10,000.

Don't understand that, since truck gvwr per ford is 14,000. Did dealer screw up or did I miss something here ?

My 3/4 ton f-250 was tagged at 10,000.

Scaled F-350 truck, it weigh 8700, my pin weigh is 2200, that put me over by 900lbs. does this mean I'm illegal ?

If you get stopped, you could be. I had to declare what weight the truck would be at the DMV. I think your dealer boo booed to keep the registration cost down.

In Missouri for license it is the weight of the truck not the rating. Also in Missouri if you are towing the plate has to cover the weight of the total rig, truck and 5'er. I also pull some heavy equipment trailer so I license my vehicle for 24K. Jim

Mine was also rated for 10,000, seems that the dealer does this to keep the cost of the tags down. I went to DMV and up'd my 10K to 12K, cost $18 dollars more a year.

Tom, that sounds like a good ideal. Maybe will go fords gvwr of 14K.

What really pee's me off, is that is one of reasons I trade in 250 (well that what I told dw ) 250 was over gvwr by about 600 lbs but rawr was still under by 400 lbs.

Talk to my brother who has 2012 f-450 drw with a gvwr of 13,700, and his is also tagged at 10,000. (How bout that same damn dealer) He is also retired State Police who says if tagged over 10k you are suppose to go over scales.

Seems like each state is a little different. For New York you can reg for any weight up to the MFR max, but not more, in our case was 13000. When we switched to Florida I upped it to 14999, was going to go 15000, but clerk suggested 14999 to prevent moving into the next higher price level, wanted a little exta room on paper as we're pushing 13000 when towing.

When I tagged my 350 the title from Ford had 14,000 on it so that is what they titled it for.

Phil805, when I changed it to 12K, DMV didnt bat an eye about it. The only change is on the registration card I had the title with me but she didnt change it on that, just the registration.

I guess its still a personal pickup not for commercial use....

I bought a 2001 F350 DRW. The MSO had the weight as 5,000lbs. Tx titled it for 7,000lbs. I mentioned to the lady the truck weighed more than 7,000lbs empty. She took the 5,000lbs, added one ton, came up with 7,000lbs. She asked if I wanted to come around the counter and do it. No. thank you.

Now got a '12 Ram 3500 DRW. Same tax office in Livingston, Tx MSO showed 7,770lbs, tagged for 9,770lbs. But trailer is tagged for it's GVWR which is 14,900lbs. So my total weight I am paying for is 24,670lbs.

Jim

Nope, you are just a undocumented trucker.

Not that anyone wants to pay higher registration fees.....BUT, they're cheaper than an over weight fine. Sad thing is it's all about money. I would get back to the dealer and have a little 'man to wall' conversation with him and explain that you will forward the fine to him if he does not straightn this out. I feel he/they screwed up and it needs to be fixed. Good luck!
