Transfer Flow 50 Gallon Replacement Fuel Tank

Received the new 2015 F350 Crew Cab short bed SRW about a week ago and love it!! Installed the Pace Edwards Bedlocker Electric Tonneau thanks to all for the great recommendations.
Now I would like to tap everyone's guidance regarding replacing the OEM fuel tank with the Transfer Flow 50 gallon replacement tank. If you have this tank please let me know your input. I understand the fuel gauge will read correctly with the new tank but I have concerns regarding the DIC (driver information center) and the miles to empty calculation the DIC provides. I was told by a local Transfer Flow dealer the DIC would self correct it's self and function correctly with the new tank. However everything I have read indicates this is not the case. I have read on occasion there is software available to correct the DIC for the new tank but have not been able to nail that one down. Can anyone provide any insight on this matter based on their experience. Also considering the L shaped 37 gallon in bed Transfer Tank as an alternative but would like to keep my bed space open.
Please let me know your thoughts and thank you in advance for you input.

I had their 46 gal in my two previous trucks. Loved them. But, the miles to go function did not work in either truck. Both tanks were installed by Transfer Flow at their Chico facility.

What does remain accurate is the amount of fuel used, so you can easily do your own calculation. The only thing I didn't like was that the low fuel warning comes on when you have about 10 gallons left.

My current long bed has a 36 gallon tank, so will try to do without installing new tank.

Although debatable how much the weight of the extra fuel will affect MPG's. My current short bed has a 39 gal tank. Since that pretty far exceeds my bladder capacity, I, like hunts800, will try and get by. I do carry an extra 5 gal can in the bed in case I miscalculate. Jim

We have heard lots of positives about the replacement tank that you mention. The prime reason that we have not installed it is that it is hard to justify the purchase price. Last time we looked I recall almost a thousand dollar price tag for the size tank we wanted. That price did not include the labor to have it installed.

I too have looked at such an option, but haven't been able to justify the cost, plus we generally stop every few hours for a potty break. On our recent trip from Florida to Alaska and back, I just carried 12 gal of extra fuel between the tool box and 5er hitch.

Have the 50 gal. tank installed at their location in Chico, CA. The local Ford Dealer in Chico reprogramed it for $50.00 and all gauges work including miles to empty,

Also, we were told that if you alter anything from stock it could void your warranty. They have to prove it was your modification that caused the problem and with all the fuel related problems they seem to be having it could void your warranty.

Add me to the group that looked at it, but weight, cost and the capacity of my bladder made it a no go for us.

I have the 70 gal OEM replacement tank from Transfer Flow...had it put in by their Springfield, MO, shop. We still stop often, but it's nice not to have to stop for fuel and put up with the hassle that goes with it.

I installed a 60 gal RDS tank in the bed. Auto feeds the main tank giving me 95 gal of fuel. Did I need this much capacity, probably not since we only do 300 mile days, but after having 100 gal in the pusher, I got used to the extra cushion and I can pick and choose when I see a bargain or a station with lots of room I can top off.

The dash gauge stays on full, the DTE is wrong, but after 5-600 miles the dash gauge starts to move, the DTE is correct and I know I have about 30+ gallons left.

When not towing the Truxedo cover hides everything, (not installed in the pic) took it off for the tank install.

I have the 50 gal titan tank installed on my F350. The dealer that installed it updated the computer to recognize the increase in capacity. It is really cool to get in after a fill up and see 920 miles to empty!

I got a 42 gal tank from Aluminum Tank Industries Inc. It cost less than any other I could find. I installed the tank myself in a couple of hours. It is a gravity feed system. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about fuel for 700 miles. We do stop but it isn't for fuel. We can have lunch in a better location than a gas station.

I had the Transfer Flow Replacement tank--50 Gal-installed in my 2012. My Ford dealer updated my truck software--the 50 gal tank option is already in the software. Works great and Ford knows what I have. Makes driving a lot easier!

Farmhawk obviously must include his stock tank in the truck of approximately 28 gal plus the 50 gal tank. 920 divided by 78 gals gives him about 11.8 mpg. No one gets over 18 mpg pulling a 5th wheel.

I believe the Titan tank he talked about replaces the stock tank because there is no way you can calibrate the DIC to take into account a transfer tank. It's more likely he was talking about project range w/o a trailer.

My 920 miles to empty is without the trailer. I do average about 12 mpg towing. All I have onboard is 50 gal of diesel. The OEM tank was removed and replaced with the 50 gal aftermarket tank.

The GM manual for our Duramax clearly states the addition of extended fuel system has a serious effect on your new vehicle warranty.

I would check with your dealer’s maintenance department and get their response in written form.

I put 50 gal tank in my 08, did not use it as a replacement it's in addition to the oem tank shows both tanks on display uses about 5 gal out of main tank then transfer same amount. It will not change the distance that orig tank will give you. Have 102000 miles on my 08 d3500 dully never had an issue till recently i think the float gets stuck sometimes says it used 30 gal took 35 to fill not gonna worry about it i know how many miles i get with and without towing ,love the system

Philp, why should this be a warranty issue your not changing anything on the truck except adding electric wires for the monitor and fuel transfer pump and a couple of hoses, dodge never said anything to me. Unless you folks are actually replacing the tank then it could be an issue
