Towing with propane on?

After many different answers I am going to ask the experts. I am wondering about while driving down the road can one leave the propane on for the fridge to stay cold? Do you have to shut it off before gas stations for fueling? If I need to shut it off before we leave camp that morning how do you keep the frozen food frozen? and the fridge cool? Any ideas or tricks that you have used would be greatly appreciated.
