I used to have a listing of Wall Mart stores that showed those that did and did not allow overnight parking. It was out of date so I tossed it a few years ago. I found this listing online http://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm Does anyone have a better link?

I have stayed at a number of store lots over the years. Never had a glitch except when another camper full of young adults stayed up partying till the wee hours. The DW said I was probably more jealous than angry. We got up at around 0600 to leave and I fired up the generator around 0530. I doubt it woke any of them but it made me feel a bit better lol.

I have mixed feelings about Wal-Mart - They are a low cost leader and very handy to find most things in one location. We have used their lot on one occasion, just because it was on our "bucket list" of things to do. I think it is great they for the most part offer the free park service. And yes, one has a tendency to spend past the cost of an rv park when you visit the store, but we usually buy stuff we would have bought anyway.

I go out of my way to first select American made - or at least non Chinese made - goods when shopping anywhere - very difficult anymore no matter where you shop.

Sam Walton had a great idea that for the most part has been good - I suspect we will continue a pilgramage there regularly. We still use the local vendors for most of our food stuffs - I won't buy imported for that stuff - too many risks. Our local vendors stay alive just because most folks feel that way. But, I do miss the now gone hardware and grocery stores we used to have in abundance.

I must say, I give kudos to Wal Mart for pioneering the generic medicines for $4. Many retailers have followed suit, but Wal Mart lead the way. The Wal Mart in Aransas Pass had some wonderful pharmacists; not that pleased with Rockport.

Well, we have the Walmart Addiction. We buy many things from them because they are less expensive, mind you some are cheaper also. We try not to buy meats or fish from them, however, I am the only one in our house that eats meat, other than fish, so a little now and then is OK. Since stomach surgery, I am not quite the connoisseur as I used to be, so no big deal. I do not buy shoes from them as I feel my feet and back are more important. We do buy most of our staples there, printer inks, $5 movies, some clothes, some other things. They are convenient for travellers. Once we settle down we will have more time to compare prices and goods with Safeway, Fry's and other local stores. I think Walmart does a lot of good for folks, that might not otherwise find a job. I sometimes get frustrated at the check out counter with some of these folks, but at least they are trying to support themselves. I would rather buy from locals to support them, but the folks that work at WM are locals also, so aren't we supporting the locals by buying there?

I think as a society, we have a responsibility to take care of folks like that....namely SSI or SSDI. I sure don't want to be zipping his pants for him!
Then what, sit at home all day? My son is handicapped (Downs Syndrome) and do you know what is most important to him? Not SSI, not his small paychecks from work that are subtracted from his SSI. It is that plaque that he brings home every year thanking him for his years of service to his employer. "Responsibility" does not mean paying them off to stay away from society. Sorry, your above quote got to me.

Sorry I ruffled your feathers, but I stand by what I said. People with disabilities such as I described shouldn't be trying to wait on customers. If there is a job they can do, fine. You can zip his britches if you want; I'm not. I did help him get a shoe back on. If he were my son or dad, I would take care of the zipper, but he ain't. Please don't take my statement as saying I have no compassion for those afflicted. I have a niece that is severely handicapped; mentally and physically.....she couldn't make it in the workplace.

Folks,
Rather than continue posts along a very personal direction please take those discussions to either emails and or PMs. This is a discussion about using WalMart while RVing. Let's keep it on topic and non personal and political. Thank you. RVWheels, MOC Admin.
